Do you consider yourself a hunter? If you have ever dated, played sports, or held a job, then your answer should be yes. We are always hunting―trying to track down and take the things we want, the things that will make our life bigger, better, safer; more satisfying, exciting, and just plain fun.
In The Hunt, serial entrepreneur, hunter, and OutdoorHub founder David Farbman offers a way of thinking about work, life, and our connection with the world based upon the ancient discipline of hunting. The Hunt will inspire anyone striving for more to think like hunters―with poise, concentration, and skill; to identify their targets; and, with focus, determination, and satisfaction, to achieve those goals.
Specifically, The Hunt shows how to
• Get a bigger, clearer picture of your life and goals, and discover things about yourself and your ability that you’ve never noticed or seen before;• Gain the hunter’s special skills at observation and perception, to understand your environment;• Learn “predatory consciousness”―the full understanding of your prey, whether business partners or competitors, so you can predict their actions;• Harness and leverage every opportunity to obtain your desired outcomes and inspire your best thinking;• Fully understand where to pick battles, and where not to “hunt” at all.
The principles of The Hunt will give you a clearer, sharper lens for seeing the world and shaping your role in it. You’ll make better decisions, form stronger alliances, build better strategies, target bigger wins, and uncover more opportunities. Best of all, you will become a true hunter when you know who you are, what you want, and how to get what you’re hunting for.

The Hunt: Target, Track, and Attain Your Goals, by David Farbman Amazon.com Review David Farbman Q&A with David Farbman, author of The Hunt Who will benefit from The Hunt?
I wrote this book for anyone who needs to gain calm and clarity in life. Whether you’re more comfortable in the boardroom or the backwoods, The Hunt will help you learn to live and execute with more purpose, awareness, and openness to the great power of the natural order. The Hunt will show you how to go after your goals while still being true to who you are.
How does a hunter’s mindset help us clarify goals and go after them?
A hunter’s mindset allows you to learn to identify the difference between what is real and what is fear, and then take that knowledge to push past barriers to reach your desired outcomes. When you think like a hunter, you gain a heightened awareness, tap the primal instincts from within, and can take down your most meaningful targets. With predatory consciousness, you’ll understand how to be present at this moment in your life so you can recognize opportunity and know to seize it.
Why is it such a challenge to focus clearly on what we want to accomplish?
We all get hung up on the noise or the clutter of situations and lose perspective of what it is we really want. As a result, our targets get further and further out of sight and zone. While it’s easy for anyone to get overwhelmed, small changes lead to innovation. There is always time to take a new tactic. The principles of The Hunt are designed to provide a clearer, sharper lens for seeing the world. You’ll learn to make better decisions, form stronger alliances, build superior strategies, target bigger wins, and uncover more opportunities.
How did you become a hunter? And how has hunting changed you?
I was a crazy, energetic kid. I give my parents an incredible amount of credit for recognizing my need to connect with nature on a very basic level. That connection has allowed me, throughout my life, to return to the woods and fields to find calm and clarity, to be able to step out of my busy mind and tap into my authentic self, the part of me that is wholly my own without judgment. Some of the most profound moments of my life have happened in a tree stand, where I could literally see farther, beyond the clutter that blocked my view. So I’ve been developing the ideas in The Hunt for my entire life. Now I am able to find that same clarity and calm within myself wherever I am. That mindset allows me to cut through negative, sometimes overwhelming messaging, so business decisions are clear-cut and focused. For me personally, it is easier to shed the past and live in the moment.

May be more convincing and useful if you are well-versed in the hunting culture By Amazonian Consumer David Farbman's insists that we humans are still hunters even in this day and age, so we need five specific qualities to optimize our ability to attain our goals:Getting Up, Getting Clear: ConsciousnessKeeping it Real: AuthenticityTaking Trophies: LeverageBringing it Home: Real-Time ExecutionFinding Flow and Leaving a Clean WakeI believe the author's hunter analogy may be more convincing for readers who can relate to the process of hunting. For those who do not hunt, like me, I found this analogy unhelpful in learning about strategic planning.

Okay at best By Preston True I'm sure Farbman has had much success, but his story didn't hold my interest and many of the ideas were simply existing common sense said differently. If he had a more engaging story to tell, he'd capture readers' attention better.
4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Goals: If you plan out a way to attain them that make sense, then you probably will reach your goals. By Jeff Lippincott Another book on strategic planning. I've read a ton of them. This one is written by someone who as a kid was taught to hunt animals and kill them. He's used his experiences as a hunter to help describe the process of strategic planning. If he'd been a competitive cyclist, then he'd have used his winning experiences to describe the process. And if he'd become a great chef or cook, then he'd have used his cooking experiences to describe the process of strategic planning.I didn't really see anything new or novel in this book. The pages were small, the line spacing was kind of wide, and the margins were not too tight. The page count capped out at 200. Kind of hard to even call this thing a book since it was so short. Only 5 chapters, and I didn't really think they did the subject matter of tome justice. There are many other books out there that do a better job of explaining strategic planning. One that comes to mind used the example of archer. It's hard for an archer to hit the bullseye if he is wearing a blindfold. But if he takes the blindfold off and aims true for his target he will probably hit it. This would seem to sum up the 200 pages of this book. One might even call an archer a hunter. 3 stars!
