In sending forth this little book, I am inclined to add a few explanatory words as to the use I have made of historical personages. The origin of the whole story was probably Freytag’s first series of pictures of German Life: probably, I say, for its first commencement was a dream, dreamt some weeks after reading that most interesting collection of sketches. The return of the squire with the tidings of the death of the two knights was vividly depicted in sleep; and, though without local habitation or name, the scene was most likely to have been a reflection from the wild scenes so lately read of.

It traces the life of a woman who lives in a mountain castle outside of Ulm from a young girl to old age. The book also traces the lives and moral struggles of her husband and sons and so was very interesting for both our Middle School/High School son and daughter as well as ourselves. Set in the period before the Protestant Reformation, it provides an interesting portrait of the Emperor Maximilian 1459-1519 and the problem of Moslem corsairs. However, the story itself is fictional and illustrates a period rather than a course of historical events. We have enjoyed a number of Charlotte Yonge books and despite the lack of strong historical content consider this one of her best as an edifying story.

We had a copy that may have belonged to my grandmother and was then passed down to my mother and then on to me. I have no idea what became of the book. On a whim, I looked it up on Amazon and got it free for my Kindle. The story is still a good one, but reading it after a 50 year gap, I found myself much more aware of the author's style and realized that I did not like it as much as I had when I was younger. It is very dated, as much by the language as by the plot, which centers on a meek and virtuous young woman who endures many challenges without ever losing her "saint-like" qualities. It is also very romantic, which was probably the appeal when I was an adolescent, in a Victorian sort of way. Despite these caveats, I was delighted to be able to read it again so I give it 4 stars for being a sweet, if somewhat sappy, read.

My brothers and sisters also loved it when I read it aloud to them with tears streaming down my face. Even though I no longer had a copy of the book my children were able to appreciate my memories of the story when I retold it to them. Friedel's and Ebbo's final scenes have the same kind of power to move the reader as Mathew Cuthbert's in Anne of Green Gables or Judy's in Seven Little Australians I'd recommend this book to any fan of historical romance or any lover of well written stories for older children. A must have book!

The Citizen Kane of Abducted Elf stories By Amazon Customer It's been too long sine I last read a story that I soaked in every detail, reveling in it's telling and dreading the final turn of the last page. A story to live in, to learn from, and to feel bereft as though missing some quiet part of self when at last the end is reached. I never imagined I would become so attached to a book where one of the main characters is a martyr for freedom and liberty while the other is a champion for social justice. But I did. When Meirermiller forces necessitate the abandonment of their ancestral home, the elves of Oaken Wood are taken to live in captivity in one of the worst environments possible. A modern German middle class apartment. There, the depraved old couple torture the elves with mundane activities and endless tedious make-work tasks like washing, household chores and general slave duties. The psychological warfare and brutal living conditions take their toll on the elves, whose numbers quickly dwindle to a paltry shadow of their former strength.Without giving away the surprise twist, one fine afternoon, in a freak open-window accident, one of their band (Dolf, the heroic and charismatic leader of the resistance) manages to escape the harsh realities of the apartment and return to their ancestral woods only to discover that all is not as it once was. Now, Dolf, hero of the elven people, must enlist a bedraggled group of war-torn allies to triumph over the coming darkness and return his people to their greatest treasure, and their freedom. The Kitchenelves Revolution is a gem of a find, a well written story with a bouncy eye for adventure and an open heart for social change. Written in error free workman's like prose and wonderfully illustrated, this tale is sure to put a smile on your face and just might encourage you to look at the world in a friendlier, more elfier way.I certainly do.I absolutely recommend this fun little fantasy for anyone looking for a bright pick-me up in an otherwise gray day.

The story is fragrant with imagination and beautiful illustrations. The author and illustrator are both talented and brought such a wondrous tale to life, not to mention its awesome humor. I laughed so much reading through the book! The story is about a bunch of elves who were abducted by two grumpy old people, and who ended up sparking a whole (should I say, cataclysmic) revolution against them. They were stuck in the kitchen for quite some time, forced to do work for the two adults. The elves were about to give up, until they devised a jaw dropping plot to escape the wretches of humans. *laugh. The plot of the story, although cute, is just so imaginative. It unites the force of nature with the evil in human civilization in a humorous way, and of course, nature wins. This, to me, is like the elf version of Shawshank Redemption, where the method of breaking free was so surprising! The elves were the type of beings who despised the ugliness of human civilization, and at the end of the story, wished that they would bring an end to it all some time in the future. So rebellious! This is a must read for those who want a good laugh, and for those who want to tell an interesting and imaginative tale to his or her friends at a party or gathering. This is a story to share.

It is the story of elflings who were trapped in the house of humans and their revolution for attaining freedom. The book contains illustrations in one page and the text in the other. The book is a funny read for both children and adults. Kids would love it for the pics and adults will love it for the writing style.I would recommend a paperback edition to get the feel of the book.HighlightsThe book is a simple read.Illustrations are exemplary. The story is funny and interestingDrawbacksThe book is a little overpriced.Reviewed for the authorDisclosure of Material Connection: I received this book as a complimentary copy in exchange for a honest review. Of my childhood in this Olaf life I can regain but little. There come to me, however, recollections of a house, surrounded by a moat, situated in a great plain near to seas or inland lakes, on which plain stood mounds that I connected with the dead. What the dead were I did not quite understand, but I gathered that they were people who, having once walked about and been awake, now laid themselves down in a bed of earth and slept. I remember looking at a big mound which was said to cover a chief known as "The Wanderer," whom Freydisa, the wise woman, my nurse, told me had lived hundreds or thousands of years before, and thinking that so much earth over him must make him very hot at nights.

I was in search of finding something to read that would entertain and inspire me. The Wanderer's Necklace has definitely done that! Every chapter brought forth a new array of events that captivated my mind weaving heartfelt imaginations. The writer takes readers on the journey with the Wanderer and captures their attention until the finish of the book. I returned to the contents of the book eagerly until I was finished reading it every day since I got it. This is something that I have not done in a long time. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction that takes you on an adventure and dares to explore the depths of things that you've never known before.

44 of 47 people found the following review helpful. A sense of duty you won't find anymore... By T. A very, very old-fashioned adventure tale. It reads somewhat like a Shakespearean story -- not a play -- with clearly drawn good and evil, some improbable plot twists, and epic battles. It is the sweeping integrity of the hero that is so compelling. He never wavers, and truly good people are drawn to him, while "bad" people hate and fear him.You really won't see a protagonist like this anymore. He values duty above all else, without sacrificing himself.

24 of 26 people found the following review helpful. Epic Type Adventure By Terry W. Moore This book was not a disappointment. It was actually three book series set up under one complete book for kindle. It was written well & kept me interested from the begining to the end. I was however, a little disappointed with the ending. I wish we would have had a little more closure of Olaf's later years. The book took us on a journey of heart ache and happiness. It was a good interesting read about power, greed, a soldier's honour, and above all, Love. I would say that over all this was a good book!

Maybe I'm just not into the great white hunter stories, much of the early parts of this book were dedicated to hunting various animals, but the latter part of the book picked up steam. Baker's dealing with the natives and the eventual reaching of his goal paints Baker as a likable and good man who was also a clever and shrewd adventurer.

I think that is the way my father would begin. My name is Ethelwyn Percivale, and used to be Ethelwyn Walton. I always put the Walton in between when I write to my father; for I think it is quite enough to have to leave father and mother behind for a husband, without leaving their name behind you also. I am fond of lumber-rooms, and in some houses consider them far the most interesting spots; but I don't choose that my old name should lie about in the one at home.

Thomson As I always find, his novels are difficult at times because of the extensive details given to thoughts, objects and ideas, but it is always worth the effort. There is much to be learned here, and much more enlightening and uplifting than the great murder mysteries I also love. There are also no "traps" here that will get me into areas I do not need to explore. Here I discover that the "least lovely" of the vicar's children has much to share that can inspire me in my walk. You don't have to be totally sold on every aspect of MacDonald's theology to be uplifted by his faith and love for our Creator.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. My first George MacDonald book, I am disappointed By deborah This is the first book of George MacDonald's I have read and I was very disappointed - especially since I knew one of my favorite Christian authors, C.S. Lewis, revered his work. The title refers to the narrator, a newlywed young mother. Each chapter relates an anecdote in her life, and as the anecdotes proceed, the chapters deal more and more thoroughly with the practical application of Christian philosophy. I can't really say they deal with the application of Christianity or Christian faith - they were somehow too vague to deserve such high praise. In many ways, I thought they fell pretty short. The anecdotes seem reasonably realistic, though a little random - the arrival of her first child, a gypsy kidnaps her little sister (an adopted gypsy child), the meeting of an interesting friend, her annoying cook, her husband's irresponsible brother, reformation of a gypsy mother, her husband's illness and conversion, exposure of a dying woman's fantasy of Christ, the woman's subsequent self-knowledge, a conversation at a dinner party, etc.I kept waiting for something interesting to happen. Perhaps it's my individual taste, but to me each chapter was so... boring. In hopes the real story was just a long time in getting started, I started to flip through. Nada. It's the same to the end. You can see early on that the husband's brother is in love with the saintly friend - but even that ended boringly. The saint was FAR too saintly to say yes. With C.S. Lewis in the back of my mind, I kept waiting for adventure!!!! No adventure. My strongest criticism of this book isn't that it was boring, but that the author's faith was the kind that makes me impatient. The author found only SOME of God's commands to be worth attention. It is easy to have sympathy for this view, except when it is being offered by a book supposedly written by a great Christian writer. It would be hard to verbalize the many ways this came through. I guess the one that stood out for me the most was that the idea of going to church seemed completely unimportant, as if we need not do it so long as we read the Bible now and then and do good works. But we don't go to church to "get" something, to learn what good works we should do, or even to find out how to take care of our souls, but to worship God! Also, there were only two people in this book who truly did do good works, and neither of them were the narrator.Maybe other George MacDonald books are different, but for me this was a bad first choice. I was disappointed.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. George MacDonald's daughter, perhaps? By Aslaug Gørbitz - Author I agree with a couple of other reviewers that this book is somewhat boring. Although almost all of his books can be rather plodding at times, this one is, in my opinion, the worst. Somewhere, I can't remember now where, I read that this book was published after his death by his daughter. I have the sneaky suspicion that this book was not only published by his daughter and was about his daughter's life, but in fact might have been written by his daughter. Now that is my own personal opinion, so take it for what it is worth, not much. But I don't think the writing sounds like that of George MacDonald. His writings are those of a man who has made up his mind. There seems to be more doubt in this work, as if the writer is not quite sure of themselves. It reads like a debut and not a book written at the end of a long writing career.

Christopher Once again Brando Christo has hit a literary ace with his second in a series on the spectacular tennis adventures of Buddy the Ball. Along with lively dialogue and vivid illustrations, Buddy comes to life on each and every page. Children will be thrilled and inspired. Really big kids will love it, too, because it sends all the right messages. Moms and dads, don't miss this opportunity to share this experience with your children.Especially for kids ten and under, be sure to also read 'Buddy Loves to Rally', Brando's first book in this series and available on Amazon.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Really just an article, not a book By Peter M. Alexander This article--it is not really book-length-- covers all the basics of the current U.S. federal investigation and indictments against FIFA officials, but it show signs of having been hastily assembled. It is not well edited, it is filled with poor punctuation and who knows what other mistakes have crept in. It does however identify the main characters and issues in the scandal, so it is adequate if you want an introduction to the situation.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Totally useless By SWITHIN There is nothing that we already don't know and this lacks depth and does not give any meaning or more information than main stream media. A total rip off and waste of time.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Very Informative By Amazon All Day! This book broke a lot of ground by shedding light on this awful scandal. It takes a hard look at the events that occurred as it explored the dark side of what was transpiring behind the scenes. This information provides a lot of surprises and all of them are not good. It gives you vital information on who was involved, their positions, what they were accused of, how the scandal started plus so much more. I would recommend reading this book to learn about the cover up and the corruption of FIFA.

The house was three miles from the station, but, before the dusty hired hack had rattled along for five minutes, the children began to put their heads out of the carriage window and say, "Aren't we nearly there?" And every time they passed a house, which was not very often, they all said, "Oh, is this it?" But it never was, till they reached the very top of the hill, just past the chalk-quarry and before you come to the gravel-pit. And then there was a white house with a green garden and an orchard beyond, and mother said, "Here we are!"

Five Children and It, by E. Nesbit

Review ''[Nesbit is] the children's writer with whom I most identify.'' --J. K. Rowling, in O, The Oprah Magazine''Their first time in the country is filled with magical escapades for five children in this classic tale of adventure . . . [A] humorous story about magic in the real world.'' --Children's Literature

From the Back Cover The five children find a cantankerous sand fairy or 'psammead' in a gravel pit. Every day 'It' will grant each of them a wish that lasts until sunset, often with disastrous consequences. Five Children and It was first published in 1902, and it has remained in print ever since. The Introduction to this edition examines Nesbit's life and her reading, showing how she was poised between the Victorian world and a new era in which children in literature were no longer mere projections of the adult viewpoint. Sandra Kemp examines how the narrative is structured around the acting out of literary fantasies, which always come down to earth. Nesbit combines wonderfully implausible events with the prosaic and familiar, and Kemp illuminates her exploration of the shifting relationship between imagination, literature, and life.

About the Author English author Edith Nesbit s impressive body of work includes poems, plays, novels, and even ghost stories, however, she is best known for her beloved children s adventure stories, published under the name E. Nesbit. Among Nesbit s best-known works are The Story of the Treasure-Seekers, The Railway Children, The Wouldbegoods and Five Children and It. Nesbit s novels departed from the children s literary tradition of fantasy-worlds popularized by Lewis Carroll and Kenneth Grahame, and instead focused on the adventures to be had from real-life experiences. Nesbit s work inspired other writers like C. S. Lewis, P. L Travers, and J. K. Rowling, and many of her stories have been adapted for film and television. In addition to writing, Nesbit was an activist and co-founded the Fabian Society, a socialist group that provided the foundation for the modern British Labour Party. Nesbit died in 1924.

80 of 83 people found the following review helpful. Sandy delight By Alyssa A. Lappen This 1902 fantasy, a gift from my parents when I was in fourth or fifth grade, features an irritable Psammead whom Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and their baby brother dig up in a sand pit. Then the magic begins. The sand-fairy does not like granting wishes, and his misshapen body with bat's ears and snail's eyes bloats when he does. The wishes, lasting only until sunset, all take unexpected, funny turns. The sand-fairy and other personalities and Victorian details render the magic entirely real-world, believable. This was my favorite children's book and I relived the delight when I found a copy to share with my own children. That this volume is illustrated by one of my favorite people from one of my favorite families triples the delight. The book is too challenging for independent reading for children under 10, but it's a great read-aloud for small children, as are the classics of Frank Baum, E.B. White and C.S. Lewis.Edith Nesbit was like J. K. Rowling a single mother in need of a means to support her children. Her books in their era were as popular as Harry Potter in this one. Some of her observations are surprisingly humane. Nesbit's treatment of a clan of Gypsies, for example, transcends the deep prejudice of her time. Not to worry, the book is not preachy or teachy. It's just grand, eloquent fun. Alyssa A. Lappen

41 of 42 people found the following review helpful. I loved it; maybe today's kids wouldn't... By A Customer I came upon E. Nesbit relatively late in life. I was a 20-something grad student when I found out that the "Bastables" referred to in C. S. Lewis' "The Magicians Nephew" were the children in an E. Nesbit book. Shortly after that, I found a copy of "Five Children and It" and eagerly read it.I love E. Nesbit. She writes in a way that is intelligent, snappy, and funny - at least to an adult. There are a lot of little side jokes in the book that seem to be aimed at the parent reading the book. I do think her books may be funnier to grown-ups looking back at childhood than they are to actual children. And I'm afraid that many of today's children, made into literalists by the media and generally not appreciative of complex, "archaic" or "overly British" (at least among American kids) language may not get it. Which is a pity, really. The Nesbit stories are so good - so imaginative, so full of good use of language. I have read a number of her stories, but I think this is my favorite. It is basically an expansion of the old saying "Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it". Five children find a Sand-Fairy (or Psammead) that can grant them wishes. But the sand fairy is a cranky literalist, who interprets the wishes of the children just as they are and wild things happen (e.g., the children wish for great beauty, and then the people around them don't recognize them). This is an extremely entertaining book. Unfortunately, I suspect it may be beyond some of today's youngsters who tend to lack patience with complex or older language.

42 of 45 people found the following review helpful. If wishes were horses, poor men would ride By E. R. Bird With the surging popularity of Lemony Snicket's, "A Series of Unfortunate Events", the time has never been better to gently urge children towards those literary classics that sound so mightily similar to their beloved Baudelaire sagas. And of the great children's authors that employed direct narration, few are so wonderful yet rarely remembered as the fantastic Edith Nesbit. The woman who single-handedly redefined the whole kid-fantasy genre. As the Books of Wonder edition of "Five Children and It" is quick to point out, until Nesbit happened along, children's fantasy novels either took place in some "far-off fantasy-land (Alice to Wonderland; Dorothy to Oz)" or simply began and ended in their own magical world (The Princess and the Goblin, for example). No one had really explored normal every day children stumbling across magic. And that, of course, brings us to the fabulous, "Five Children and It". Written in Nesbit's trademark snarky Edwardian style, the tale remains as amusing to children today as it did back in the early 20th century. I remember it fondly from my own tender youth, and since I'm only 27 that should certainly say something. Now there were once five city children. The eldest was Cyril and the youngest was simply referred to as "the Lamb", since it was only a baby and was dearly adored and spoiled by its family. One summer the children have the delightful opportunity to be left in a seaside house with only their servants to care for them. While exploring the grounds of their new home, the kids come across a strange furry creature in their local gravel pit. It has extended eyes like a snail, the ears of a bat, monkey hands and feet, and a big furry spiderish body. It is, of course, a Psammead (or Sand-fairy) and the kids have a chance to make one wish a day. In your normal Edwardian novel, this might be a good thing and the kids might have delightfully boring adventures for the rest of the book. Not here. The Psammead, you see, is a bit of a jerk. A self-satisfied eternally complaining jerk. And whatsoever the children wish for, be it wings or money, somehow their wishes have a tendency to go awry. Still, when you've a whole summer before you and a pile of wishes waiting to be made, life can get very interesting indeed. To my mind, Nesbit's best book is without question, "The Phoenix and the Carpet". That said, this is an excellent companion to it. Now I had the pleasure of reading an edition with the original Millar illustrations when I was young. And if you're a fan of pen and ink, that could certainly be a nice choice. But if you want an edition that's really going to get your children's attention, try the Books of Wonder publication with illustrations by Paul O. Zelinsky. Zelinsky, as it notes in the back of the book, had a great deal of difficulty drawing the Psammead since Millar's own version was uncommonly faithful to Nesbit's description. Nonetheless, Zelinsky has the advantage of color and full page spreads. So when the children acquire beautiful rainbow colored wings, you see them here in all their showy glory. Better still are the tiny black and white illustrations on the book's inside covers that show multiple amusing scenes from the book. And as for Nesbit herself, none can compare. She employs the tone of a conspirator towards her child readers. Often adults are ridiculed for being too blunt and unimaginative to understand what's being said here. The book teems with plots that would be later employed and stolen by such future authors as C.S. Lewis and (more obviously) Edward Eager. In fact, as a kid I often got Eager and Nesbit mixed up in my head. Some critics of this tale sigh with great moans that the kids here don't talk like kids today. Well lah-de-dah. The children in the "Peanuts" comic strip don't talk like kids today either. Shall we just go chuck all of Charles Schultz's work into the Boston Harbor and forget he ever existed? Ladies and gentlemen, we simply cannot go about condemning classic children's books because our slang has changed. Kids today will still love "Five Children and It" and they'll adore its ridiculous plotting. If anything is dated about this book it's the truly odd moments of racism in it. Though Nesbit is to be applauded for giving gypsies a fair shake, the same cannot be said for American Indians. The British obsession with Native Americans is as puzzling now as it was then. So you should at least know that there's one chapter in this book that, if you don't particularly care for Edwardian stereotypes, can be easily skipped past if you so choose. Or not. It's entirely up to you.In any case, this is a fine fine tale. They don't hardly make `em like this no more (though they certainly try to). A tip of the hat to Ms. Nesbit for all that she has done for children's literature. And a tip of the hat to every kid today that picks the book up for a lark. A memorable tale.

Come join me for this 50-image photo journal as I cycle and hike across New Zealand. In this sixth volume I am cycling east from Rotorua past a series of stunning lakes to the north coast town of Opotiki to camp and soak at the amazing Awakeri Hot Springs. Next I'll be pedaling through the jaw-dropping Waioeka Gorge, past the fabled Rere Waterfalls, and onto the east coast beach town of Gisborne for Christmas. I hope you enjoy these images and travel thoughts as much as I did photographing them and living the adventure.

Even though the story is common, no two people approaches the same circumstances in the same way, and that is what makes this story nicely unpredictable and the author amusingly lets the events unfold. The story is entertaining and realistically told and with a nice touch of humor that will keep you glue to the pages. Like a good movie, never boring and a fast and very enjoyable read. The author also scored more points by quoting my favorite poem in the appropriate part of the story: “If” — BY RUDYARD KIPLINGHighly recommend this book. Enjoy.

The author has chosen a perfect style to convey the emotional roller coaster infidelity takes you on. I could feel the hurt and frustration as Ana tries to understand what is happening and protect her children. I had also read the book about dying that is mentioned, but I never actually thought about the similarities to dealing with grief. It is frustrating to see in black and white how much we are willing to do to keep the status quo. How much of ourselves we are willing to sacrifice to keep the illusion of family. Kudos for waking us all up. Hope to read more from this author!

At the most wretched hour between a black night and a wintry morning in the year 1777, Mrs. Dudgeon, of New Hampshire, is sitting up in the kitchen and general dwelling room of her farm house on the outskirts of the town of Websterbridge. She is not a prepossessing woman. No woman looks her best after sitting up all night; and Mrs. Dudgeon's face, even at its best, is grimly trenched by the channels into which the barren forms and observances of a dead Puritanism can pen a bitter temper and a fierce pride. She is an elderly matron who has worked hard and got nothing by it except dominion and detestation in her sordid home, and an unquestioned reputation for piety and respectability among her neighbors, to whom drink and debauchery are still so much more tempting than religion and rectitude, that they conceive goodness simply as self-denial. This conception is easily extended to others—denial, and finally generalized as covering anything disagreeable.

A friend who was still laughing about it strongly recommended it to me, so I read it and was absolutely delighted with it. It's such a crack up.In this tale the Revolutionary War is lost by the British due to an oopsie on their part, and the story's serious tone with all the silliness going on only makes it that much funnier. This story was smart and hilarious. I loved it and wanted more when it was over. I'll have to buy another one of his books. I just love his style.I can't resist any chance I can get to peek into the mind of a genius, and Shaw was a true genius. This story was delightful and brilliant.

As a history buff, I found this hilariously imaginative tale of how the British lost the Revolutionary War to be incredibly witty. It's a truly outstanding work and such an original idea. I'm surprised the Monty Python crew never did anything with this.I loved the premise, and the characters, and the light hearted mockery that Shaw made of the do or die genre. I especially loved the outrageous change of the reverend's ideals and his heroic actions to save Dudgeon's life. This is such an excellent story and shows that there is nothing that Shaw can't successfully poke fun at.George Bernard Shaw created numerous masterpieces over the span of his writing career. He has the distinction of being the only person to ever be awarded both an Oscar and the Nobel Prize for Literature. He was a very humble and conscientious man, a political activist and a vegetarian. His conscientiousness shows in his work by his inability to write meaningless fluff at a time when fluff dominated the stage. His trademark is his classic use of ample humor in dramas with serious subject matter. It takes a special kind of genius to be able to pull that off as flawlessly as he did.

This crazy tale of how the Brits lost the American colonies due to a bumbling error had me falling on the floor laughing. Shaw turns everything even history upside down in this wild satire of a melodrama. The character development is zanily ironic as people flip-flop under "do or die" pressure, and the circumstances that bring it all on will make you laugh until your sides hurt. A rogue becomes a pillar of virtue and a virtuous man becomes a mouthy rebel in this ingeniously funny story where anything is possible.Shaw is my favorite of the Victorian playwrights. His works were revolutionary in many ways. Use of humor was rare and exceptional for playwrights during that era, but Shaw was not afraid to make audiences laugh. He also tackled serious moral, political, and social issues in his plays at a time when sappy dramas were all the rage. He was truly bold and innovative and greatly contributed to dramatic art. He had an amazing gift, the ability to make people think while simultaneously making them laugh.Reading Shaw's works are a genuine treat. All of his plays are fabulous. His characters are memorable, and his humor is brilliant.
