Great book for those who camp or are considering going camping By lashon hunter First since I have a large family I cook a lot and I’m always up for new recipes. The author did a great job explaining what you need to know, from the equipment needed to the preparation and care to the directions of the recipes. I will try the Breakfast Biscuits, Fruity French Toast and the Rib Eyes for the Ravenous and so many more. The recipes take basic knowledge and heck of a lot of experience with that being said would I recommend this book to anyone? Of courseI have a lot of friends who camp now I can go along and have something to bring to the table. Therefore this book was very helpful for me. You learn something new every day now I can cook a whole meal with just a few things.

It brings joy and family relationship closer.The challenging part though is on how to prepare your camping so that everyone will have a very good experience afterwards. Part of preparation of course are the foods to eat.Through this camping cookbook, we will never be run out of recipe to choose from. There are 26 recipes in this amazing cookbook. The preparation will be a lot easier then. We just have to follow the steps as guide.

I was pleased that the book includes recipes for hearty breakfasts, tasty lunches and adventurous dinners and as a result, I was able to put the necessary items on my shopping list. That's why I grabbed this book and I wasn't disappointed. It's full of different dishes that can be cooked over the fire. You learn something new every day now I can cook a whole meal with just a few things.

By Mirtha Costa Pienso que sería una osadía pretender decir algo nuevo sobre Dickens , especialmente por parte de un simple ávido lector. Y lo mismo sobre Historia de dos ciudades, por más que pueda haber obras del autor que me resultan más afines que otras. Pero voy a permitirme recomendar lo siguiente: vean el libro II capítulo 7, "Monseñor en la ciudad". Es una pequeña (por breve) obra maestra : finísima ironía, agudísima capacidad de observación, elegancia en el estilo, y, sobrevolándolo todo, una sensación ominosa de que esa situación no puede durar, pero sin decirlo. Claro, con el diario del lunes sabemos que luego vino la revolución francesa , que efectivamente no sólo no duró sino que las cosas fueron al otro extremo, pero ello está implícito sin decir una palabra.-

La primera ciudad simbolizaría de algún modo la paz y la tranquilidad, la vida sencilla y ordenada; mientras la segunda representaría la agitación, el desafío y el caos, el conflicto entre dos mundos en una época en la que se anuncia drásticos cambios sociales.En el libro se explica el ambiente en la Revolución francesa, las numerosas ejecuciones y el gran número de víctimas por día. Narra la revolución en sus inicios y en su apogeo. El libro da a entender la intención del autor de dejar bien claro el sangriento ambiente revolucionario y la inestabilidad del pueblo, unida a su locura.

Buen final By Javier Castro Estas últimas semanas me he descargado desde Amazon.es en mi lector de libros digitales Kindle 4 novelas:- ¨Historia de dos ciudades¨ -Charles Dickens-- ¨Moby Dick¨ -Herman Melville-- ¨Robinson Crusoe¨ –Daniel Defoe-- ¨El tango de la Guardia Vieja¨ -Arturo Pérez-Reverte-Los tres primeros gratis, el último me ha costado 13.81 dólares.Después de descargármelos me he hecho estas preguntas: ¨¿Por qué no he tenido que pagar nada por los tres primeros? ¿No tienen derechos de autor?¨La respuesta está muy bien explicada en este enlace.Dice que internacionalmente por regla general –que puede cambiar en algunos países- la protección de derecho de autor dura hasta que el autor fallece más los 50 años posteriores.Charles Dickens falleció en 1870.Herman Melville en 1891.Daniel Defoe en 1731.Ha pasado más de un siglo desde que murió el último de estos tres autores y de ahí que podamos leer sus libros gratis en Kindle. Me apetecía leer algo sobre la Revolución francesa y este es uno de los clásicos que trata este tema. Las dos ciudades a las que se refiere el título son Londres y París. La novela empieza unos años antes de la toma de la Bastilla y termina unos años después. El contexto histórico es fascinante y el libro termina con una gran demostración de amor y valentía.Es un libro que recomiendo para los que estén interesados en este tema.Leyendo la novela me vino a la cabeza algo que escribió Reverte hace tiempo, de si los políticos debieran opositar o demostrar de alguna manera unos conocimientos mínimos de cultura general.Si voy a una zona rural, a un pueblo de 100 habitantes, no le voy a pedir al alcalde pedáneo que sepa de la Revolución francesa, porque no es lo que se requiere de él. Tiene unos problemas muy específicos que solucionar en su pueblo, como que se establezcan turnos de riego en época de sequía, que se recojan las basuras, cuidar el monte y los caminos y organizar las fiestas. Es buena gente, eficiente, los del pueblo le han votado y lo aprecian porque soluciona los problemas y les representa bien ante el alcalde del municipio. Lo hace bien, y si sabe de la Revolución francesa, del Holocausto nazi o de la Caída del muro de Berlín genial, y si no no pasa nada.El problema viene cuando en instituciones como el ayuntamiento de una ciudad grande o en un parlamento (vasco, europeo o las Cortes) personas que tienen atribuida la misión de expresar la voluntad del pueblo y gestionar recursos no tienen ni puta idea de cultura general. Han llegado hasta donde han llegado a través de favores, contactos y amiguismos. Personas sin un mínimo de cultura general que desafortunadamente se han colado en la capa más alta de la pirámide política y toman decisiones muy importantes para el futuro del país. Para esta élite política, ¿no sería necesario exigir unos conocimientos mínimos en su campo, como lo hacemos con un dentista, mecánico o carnicero?Es un debate que está ahí. ¿Deben los políticos probar unos conocimientos mínimos a través de un examen? Los que están en contra dicen que una persona puede ser un buen gestor habiendo fracasado en el sistema educativo convencional. De lo cual no me cabe la menor duda. Pero hay que encontrar una manera de quitarse de en medio a estos chupones que ni son buenos gestores, ni tienen un mínimo de cultura, y que solo han llegado a la élite política por apoyar a la persona indicada en el momento favorable. Por subirse al carro adecuado.Un examen sin avisar en las Cortes sobre cultura general no haría daño a nadie, y seguro que nos divertiríamos. Recordemos: estoy hablando de la élite política, senadores y diputados que se levanta un pastón al año... y durante el resto de sus vidas.Del tema de la guillotina, que lo tengo fresco, ya hablaré otro día. Pero igual hay que desempolvarla :-)Termino con las primeras frases de la novela, ambientada a finales del siglo XVIII:«Es el mejor de los tiempos, es el peor de los tiempos. Es la edad de la sabiduría, y también de la locura. Es la época de la fe, y también de la incredulidad, la primavera de la esperanza y el invierno de la desesperación. Lo tenemos todo, pero no somos dueños de nada, caminamos derechito al cielo pero tomamos el camino a otro lado. En fin, esta época es tan parecida a todas las épocas, que nada de lo que aquí voy a contar debería, en realidad, sorprendernos. Nada. Ni el perdón, ni la venganza, ni la muerte, ni la resurrección».

About the Author English novelist and playwright Wilkie Collins was a prolific writer with a body of work comprising thirty novels, over sixty short stories, more than a dozen plays, and a wide range of non-fiction pieces. Collins is best known for his novels The Woman in White, an early sensation novela genre combining shocking gothic horror with everyday domestic settingsand The Moonstone, which is credited as one of the first modern mystery novels. In the 1850s Collins met Charles Dickens and the two struck up a friendship, which lead to Collins becoming a frequent contributor to Dickens s journals Household Words and All the Year Round. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Disappointed me By Bev Morris I've read a lot of Wilkie Collins, and I have to say this is not one of his best. It was okay, as long as you are able to ignore certain inconsistencies. But I was very disappointed in his character development. The only two characters that he bothered to actually delve into were Lady Janet and Mercy Merrick. Everyone else behaved like a caricature of whatever part of society they represented. Grace Roseberry's character was slightly fleshed out in the beginning, but instead of further fleshing her out when he had the opportunity, Collins turned her into a vile woman who apparently had forgotten about the hardships she spoke of in first chapter.Put plainly, this novel requires a great suspension of disbelief. Part of the plot just don't add up. In the beginning, it is discovered that a woman who has stopped breathing for a very long time can be revived. Though her physical health suffers, she's as mentally acute as before. That is downright impossible, to go half an hour without oxygen and suffer no brain damage. Also, he had one character writing another character, but how he could have ever obtained her address or she his is impossible to fathom. They met once, contentiously, then she left the country almost immediately. There was no way he could have even known what country she had gone to. Little things like that bother me, but maybe you can suspend your disbelief better. It might be because Collins couldn't make me like the main character that I'm finding all these reasons to pick the plot apart, but Collins has written better, by far.But, hey, it's free, so take your chances on whether you'll like it.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. a good read By pondscum This book is the story of a "fallen woman" who has a chance to make a fresh start in life by assuming the identity of a dead "lady". OK, it's not much of a spoiler to say that she does take the chance.... and that her deceit eventually catches up with her. I thought Collins did a fine character study here and his sympathetic portrayal of the heroine, in contrast to the "lady", was probably controversial at the time this novel was written. The writing and plot construction are good except for a long digression near the end in which the heroine recounts the entire sad story of her childhood and life before the opening of the novel. Recommended.

It's about a young woman named Mercy who assumes the identity of a war-victim in order to make a new start on a troubled and unhappy life. About the Author

Anne Keil, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist and supervisor of rehabilitation services at the University of Colorado Hospital at Stapleton and Park Meadows Rehabilitation Clinics in Denver. Dr. Keil has worked in a variety of areas, including outpatient orthopedics, neurology, inpatient, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and home health care. Working in facilities or countries that did not have many physical therapy resources, Dr. Keil became interested in taping as a low-cost adjunct to treatment and an effective alternative to bracing.

Dr. Keil received her doctorate in physical therapy in 2005 from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned her BS in physical therapy in 1991 and BS in community health science in 1989 from California State University at Fresno. Dr. Keil is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).

About the Author American author (Pearl Zane Grey) is best known as a pioneer of the Western literary genre, which idealized the Western frontier and the men and women who settled the region. Following in his father s footsteps, Grey studied dentistry while on a baseball scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania. Grey s athletic talent led to a short career in the American minor league before he established his dentistry practice. As an outlet to the tedium of dentistry, Grey turned to writing, and finally abandoned his dental practice to write full time. Over the course of his career Grey penned more than ninety books, including the best-selling Riders of the Purple Sage. Many of Grey s novels were adapted for film and television. He died in 1939.

Baseball As It Used To Be By Charles Wheeler The Red-Headed Outfield is a collection of short stories about baseball as it was played in the last couple of decades of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th. They are actually fictionalized accounts of some of the adventures in baseball which Zane Grey found himself as he grew to adulthood in Ohio during the 1880s and 90s. Zane Grey loved baseball almost as much as he loved fishing, and he was an exceptional pitcher until the distance from the mound to homeplate was moved, and he could never re-perfect his curve ball afterwards. He starred for the University of Pennsylvania, and played semi-pro ball for several seasons while living in New York. These stories are about how much the game was loved and appreciated back then, and how every boy growing up during this time worshipped the players. These get to the heart of the game as it was. The "characters" who played and influenced the game, and the adventures and hi-jinx that prevailed; yet told as only Zane Grey could tell them. See and read the early work of a master as he writes about what he loves. These books for boys are not just for boys, but for anyone who loves a story about growing up.

Julius Caesar is a tragedy by William Shakespeare. It is one of several plays written by Shakespeare based on true events from Roman history, which also include Coriolanus and Antony and Cleopatra. Although the title is Julius Caesar, Julius Caesar is not the most visible character in its action; he appears alive in only three scenes. Marcus Brutus speaks more than four times as many lines and the central psychological drama is his struggle between the conflicting demands of honor, patriotism and friendship. The play opens with the commoners of Rome celebrating Caesar's triumphant return from defeating Pompey's sons at the battle of Munda. Two tribunes, Flavius and Marrullus, discover the commoners celebrating, insult them for their change in loyalty from Pompey to Caesar, and break up the crowd. They also plan on removing all decorations from Caesar's statues and ending any other festivities. In the next scene, during Caesar's parade on the feast of Lupercal, a soothsayer warns Caesar to "Beware the ides of March", a warning he disregards. The action then turns to the discussion between Brutus and Cassius. In this conversation, Cassius attempts to influence Brutus' opinions into believing Caesar should be killed, preparing to have Brutus join his conspiracy to kill Caesar. The play ends with a tribute to Brutus by Antony, who proclaims that Brutus has remained "the noblest Roman of them all" because he was the only conspirator who acted, in his mind, for the good of Rome. There is then a small hint at the friction between Mark Antony and Octavius which will characterize another of Shakespeare's Roman plays, Antony and Cleopatra. While this play deals specifically with political power, this is an eternal theme transcending time and national borders and applies to everything we do. Today the power credo is called game theory, and is both simple and complex and effects everything we do, and how we understand game theory determines how we succeed in life. This play is rich in poetic language, metaphor, character and philosophy. A Tale of Murder and Intrigue - Based on Historical Events By nancy eshelman Everyone interested in freedom- that is not being governed by a dictator needs to read this. Written 500 plus years ago it is still relevant today. Who's right? Brutus or Antony? Brutus (and the other conspirators) kill Caesar because they fears Caesar loves power too much. "Et tu Brute." Antony supports Caesar's nephew who becomes the next dictator.

It includes most of the standard Trollope elements: two people who are in love with each other, but too shy to say so; a fortune-hunting woman and the men she's after; members of the clergy; a bit of Parliament; family life in England in the 1870s; fox hunting; and satire of life in both England and the United States. The characters are extremely well drawn. Although the writing is "old fashioned," the emotions and situations are up-to-date. There is humor, pathos and excellent description.

Clinton All of the underlying themes of Trollope's work are in this book; (1) the underlying strength of women; (2) the weakness of men; (3) and the portrayal of how people manipulate, or attempt to manipulate each other.This book has well-developed characters - as always with Trollope, including a young woman who is seeking to marry a rich man, a rich lord, two rich men who are members of the upper class (but one rung below the lord), a successful farmer, a lawyer, an heiress and a couple of nice people. The book has two successful love stores (Reginald/Mary and Rufford/Penge) and three failed love stories (Twentyman/Masters; Trefoil/Rufford and Trefoil/Morton). It deals honestly with the emotions of all concerned. Every scene is put together with the thoughtful approach of Trollope, who never lets any strand of the plot dangle.What makes this book unusual is Senator Gotobed, who is on a visit from America. The Senator speaks frankly about everything and often offends his English hosts. His comments bring buried tensions to the surface. I ended up admiring the Senator because of his fearlessness and outspokenness. He is, of course, ridiculous and Trollope was having a bit of fun by introducing him to the story.

Good but sometimes tedious By mcerner The American Senator of the title is a stuffy, boring old man who wants to understand English politics and morality but also wants to impose his own morality upon the English. Sadly, the book could have been far more exciting without this character. On the other hand, the characters remaining are interesting enough. This book is mainly about love, or about the pursuit of love or fortune. The scheming and penniless Arabella Trefoil is engaged to a man who we quickly see is far too good for her, and what he sees in her beyond her remote beauty is a big question that is never quite resolved. However, wanting a fortune, she maintains her engagement in private while denying it in public, thus finding herself able to pursue the local squire, Lord Rufford, who is also taken with her beauty but on advice of friends, becomes reluctant to truly woo Arabella. Social interactions between all these parties, including their antecedents, are quite interesting and fill a good portion of the book. On the other hand, another love affair of lesser merit but far more honesty is that of Mary Masters and Reginald Morton, a romance against the Masters' family wishes who pressure both her and the unfortunate Larry Twentyman to make a match. Intrigues from minor characters, plots and subplots, though rather too much mention and detail of fox hunting, still this is a fun read.

About the Author William Blake was an English poet, artist and illustrator. Born in London in 1757, Blake had a strongly religious upbringing and was encouraged to read and study the Bible by his devout Christian mother. In his youth, he earned an apprenticeship as an engraver, and he made a living throughout his life carving woodblock illustrations for the printing press. Blake published his first book of poetry, Poetical Sketches circa 1783, and soon fell in with some of the most famous artists and intellectuals of the time, including Joseph Priestly, Mary Wollstonecraft and Thomas Paine. Throughout his life, Blake wrote and illustrated many books of poetry, despite the fact that his works, often considered too radical or irreligious, went largely unrecognized during his lifetime. Now Blake s books of poetry and illustrations, including Songs of Innocence and Experience and Jerusalem, are considered some of the seminal texts of the Romantics movement. Blake died in 1827, and is buried in an unmarked grave in the Dissenter s graveyard in Bunhill Fields.

Terrific resource for Blake fans. If you are new to Blake, he was (a) genius (b) wonderful, original poet, (c) deep thinker and (d) totally crazy. A mad genius who enriched all our lives. BTW the text of the popular hymn "Jerusalem" is in the intro to "Milton." The book reproduces Blake's engraving.

By WolfWillow The entire collection is really interesting, and there is a lot of little-known material in it - I am still enthralled every time I sit down to read more of it! I originally needed verification of a particular quotation that has mistakenly been attributed to Shakespeare. This set offers the actual, hand-written journal the quotation comes from, confirming (in Blake's own hand) that the quote is, indeed, his! Blake is a brilliant poet, and I highly recommend this set to poetry lovers everywhere!

Lonely Planet isn't what it used to be. They are more focused on upmarket travellers than they used to be, and their preachy political correctness causes them to leave out a lot of information. The printed Jens Petersen book is a little older but far more useful.

Not too many pictures, but many top 10 type lists and phone numbers, web sites, cost range, narrative on description of event or hotel or eating or other activities or geographical area. Great organization with good index and legend.
