Dr. Day taught environmental science and biology for more than twenty years. Today, she leads nature tours in New York City Parks for the New York Historical Society, the High Line Park, Fort Tryon Park Trust, Riverside Park Conservancy, and New York City Audubon. Trudy Smoke is a professor of linguistics and rhetoric at Hunter College, City University of New York and a nature illustrator. She is the illustrator of Field Guide to the Street Trees of New York City. Beth Bergman is a photographer for the Metropolitan Opera who has been documenting nature for forty-one years. Her photographs have appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, Newsweek, New York Magazine, Opera News, and Paris Match.

It's inspirational, instructive and interesting. Excellent for beginners who benefit from knowing which species to look for in which season. Each bird's details are presented in a concise easy to read layout. This is a great field guide to the City. The photo and illustrations are beautiful and make it easy to identify the birds we see in our neighborhoods and parks. Congratulations to Leslie Day for producing the authoritative guide to New York Birds.

As an amateur birder, I was dying to learn more about the birds I see each day in NYC. There's a cardinal family outside of my apartment, and there are bunch of sparrows who vie with them for snacks. This book is wonderful.
