With the sudden death of his wife, Dr. O'Neill embarked on a contemplative journey through loss and grief. His letters and poems helped pave the way for a new life.

For anyone who has experienced the loss of someone they dearly loved, and for those who resonate with very honest, expressive poetry and writing, this book will touch the soul deeply, guaranteed. As we toggle toggle back and forth between letters to a friend and poems from different periods of the author's life, we find ourselves coming to terms with an untimely death that has left a gaping hole, very slowly to be filled with understanding and acceptance, and ... eventually ... the willingness to move forward, embracing life once again with anticipation.Grief is never an easy journey, and it takes how ever long it takes. We may never completely get over certain losses, but we find we can not only survive but eventually thrive once again. It is good to have books with authors like this one who can set an example of vulnerability and courage, to help reassure us that we are not alone, that it's okay to allow all of the feelings we have, and that it can be a good idea to reach out to others for support. What a gift this collection of writings is!
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. a book to be read over and over By Kathryn Coffman This is more than an eloquent meditation on love and loss, it is a testament to the search for meaning and most of all to hope. The poems are sweet and spare, and allow much room for our own personal interpretation. I especially loved the letters to Annie - reminding us not only of the immeasurable value dear friends can bring into our lives, but also (in these days of instant messaging and text) of the amazing richness of a written letter. This is a book to revisit again and again, and it will reveal new levels of meaning with each reading. A balm for the soul.

The poetry is rich, heartfelt, and vulnerable and the letters to Annie reveal how friendship can sustain us through times of unimaginable loss. As a grief counselor I am always looking for resources that resonate deeply with the experience of grief and loss and "Peach, Limestone, and Green" does just that. It is a heroic and hopeful journey through the wide ranging emotions that accompany profound grief. I recommend it to anyone who has been touched by loss.
