Nine-year-old Adi is the clumsiest kid ever. After she oversleeps, misses her school bus, and hears her parents fighting, Adi wants nothing more than to escape for a while. But after her mother drops her off at school, Adi has no idea her wish is about to come true.

During first period recess, Adi follows a dragonfly inside a bush on the playground. But suddenly, a violent thunderstorm approaches, the ground trembles, the earth cracks—and Adi finds herself precariously hanging from a branch above a huge hole. Moments later Adi’s arms give out, and she plunges far beneath the earth into a strange new world. Adi quickly learns that she has been called to this land for a purpose and that she has a journey to complete. Adi’s new dragonfly friend, Flutter, says that she has been to the kingdom before, but Adi cannot remember anything about it. As Adi begins her expedition, she makes a mistake that transports her back to her own world—where she makes a shocking discovery.

In this charming fantasy tale, a young girl is swept away on an exciting and dangerous adventure, where she soon realizes she must summon the courage to help save a dying land—before it is too late.

She said it was the best book ever! The first chapter IS her. Maybe not 'clumsy' but perhaps feelings 'Adi' has appear to be similar to those of my granddaughter, who says she learned from the story that even if you think you can not do big special things, you really can. And that sometimes it's the small things that matter most! She says she realized that the things she didn't like in the story are the things you are not supposed to like. The story line of the other world is a great reminder to keep our focus. God is faithful and when are faithful to him, the blessings are wonderful. The story never openly mentions God, or any particular religion or system of belief. However the story is obvious. I also enjoyed this fantasy, and thank Laura for a great read.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. My daughter LOVES this book! By Mom of One My daughter and I chose this book for our nightly "book club" read. We have a 2 chapter a night maximum and with this book it's hard to keep that. The book is so engaging that the suspense to find out what happens next is hard for my daughter (and to be honest, myself). My daughter gives it a whole hearted two thumbs up!

Complete digitally restored reprint (facsimile) of the original edition of 1902 with excellent resolution and outstanding readability. With 16 illustrations. “Olympian Nights” written by John Kendrick Bangs a novel about an American traveler of the twentieth century finds himself stranded in Greece, robbed and alone, and takes sanctuary in a cave. .. that proves to be the entrance to the home of the gods. As the gods' guest, he learns just what the immortal divinities are up to in modern times, with hilarious results. The author portrays the gods going about their duties and personal affairs in the terms of American high society, with all the elegance, archness, wit, jealousy, and pettiness of the idle rich. Mythic grandeur and modern wit prove a perfect fit in this sharp satire.

If you are a beginner with mythology, this will be great for you. If you are already familiar with mythology, this can still provide an interesting twist on Greek mythology. There was one thing that bothered me: as a British man, the main character uses "Jove" instead of Zeus or even Jupiter. Children will get bored of this, but others might find it interesting. It's free, so even if you don't enjoy it, you lose nothing.

By Amazon Customer If you can divert your sensibilities from the incredibly racist comments (albeit perfectly acceptable in the author's time), it is a very amusing read. As a fan of greek mythology, I enjoyed this read, and the author's snappy tone.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Bar and Ger, By D. Green A cute, endearing, and loving play about a sister and a brother. The most interesting aspect of it was that it premiered in Cape Town, South Africa in 1975. Hmm... that makes you want to think. But sorry folks, this is a nonpolitical piece that doesn't stray into South African history at all. None the less, it is a play. And a good one. Ger, the older sister, looks back on her relationship with her baby brother, Bar. Through the years, they both grew and age, as neither of them can escape the pains of life, along with the laughs and the songs. One thing though. I am a big fan of classic music, but for the life of me, I have never heard of Luigini's Ballet Egyptien. For those of you interested in this one act play, a search for it would be a good idea since the overture plays a major role in Geraldine Aron's work.

Claude Gueux (French Edition), by Victor Hugo

About the Author Victor Hugo est né à Besançon en 1802.

Craig This book interested me because Claude Gueux is similar to Jean Valjean (Les Misérables) and in some ways is an alternative version of Jean V. Claude Gueux, the character, is sent to prison for the same crime as Jean Valjean will be (stealing a loaf of bread), but he seems less sentient and the plot is limited to a story taking place in the prison. Victor Hugo's description of the prison environment at the beginning of the XIXth century makes one think that things have not changed since then.Since it was published before Les Misérables, I think it would be advisable to read it first.

Burns This is the story of a man in a French prison who was abused and suffered for many years. Hugo then asks what society's responsibility is for his life journey which ended up so terribly. Beautifully written in French. Read it on my Kindle where all you have to do is touch the word or phrase to get either a French dictionary definition or an French/English dictionary translation. No one writes with more passion than Victor Hugo!

Quite, quite a gripping experience I dare say. Thanks, RYAN DOYLE, for that drama, that "in your head" experience as a reader...." His book left me wondering what more dwells inside the author..... and made me cringe with empathy at the angst in life which Doyle captures.
