0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. and that it's made thousands of people happy in a single season By Alexandra Tibbetts I was skeptical of this whole project... I didn't want my husband Roddy to take so much time away from the family to hike 73 waterfalls, record his footfalls with GPS, write up his impressions, and photograph the destinations. But now that I see the finished product, and that it's made thousands of people happy in a single season... I'm whole heartedly endorsing this project. It's a wonderful guide to waterfall hikes, much like a book I bought when I moved to Atlanta after college, and checked off the hikes one by one each weekend. Washington is even more beautiful than Georgia is, so hikers will enjoy getting all around the state with this guide. There are hikes that are easy, short walks for families... as well as views that will be hard won. You can contact the author at http://roddyscheer.com if you have any questions!

Anyone would be hard-pressed to find a pastime more emblematic of the western spirit than fly-fishing. Liberating, poetic, wild, soothing and inspiring, it pushes the boundaries of the mind. In essays ranging from introspective to ironic, angler authors Chadd VanZanten and Russ Beck distill the purest truths of fly-fishing into essential, often humorous rules of thumb. With kernels like "always tell the truth sometimes" and "all the fish are underwater," wade into the blue ribbon waters of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Utah to reflect metaphysically on these lines of practical wisdom.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A classic on the philosophy of fishing and friendship By Star Coulbrooke Even if you don’t know anything about fly-fishing, this book hits the spot. It’s a sarcastic, loving, self-deprecating conversation between friends which taps the funnybone and also appeals to the philosophical mindset. The technical terms and trade secrets occur without explanation, but novices will figure it out as they go along, and it doesn’t matter if they don’t because the stories are such fun. These two guys are so full of how-to-live that you wish you could join their private jokes, and you do in the reading. What’s best about the writing is, well, everything. The excitement. The cliff-hangers. The recognition that fishing isn’t just about fishing. Russ and Chadd talk about fish in the same way they talk about each other. They’re “reckless, irrational” (p.27), “delirious and desperate” (50). They proffer a “downright holiness” of experience made into stories. And ironies. “When I lie, they think I’m lying. When I tell the truth, they know I’m lying” (103).You can tell a lot about the state of these fly-fishers’ minds by the way they pay tribute to rivers. To fish is to become a part of the river’s rhythm, its cache of secrets, its thrall. As Chadd writes, “Rivers exert an irresistible gravitational force on those who live nearby” (20). This is also true of the force on those who stand inside a river day after day, lifting live weighted silver from its swift depths. It’s this element that I think will draw hundreds of readers from sporting goods stores and literary circles alike—the understated commentary on the plight of nature as we humans leave our mark, even when we try not to. The book is nonjudgmental. It doesn’t tie anything up in pithy endings or posit any morals, but leaves the answers to life’s big questions in the hands of readers to keep or release according to their own desire. As Russ says, “Good grief. This is so good” (35). --Review by Star Coulbrooke, poet laureate of Logan City Utah, June 23, 2015

Great book for all fly fishers By Cutthroat Maniac I got this book because I fish a lot in Montana, Idaho, and Utah and I was looking for a new book on fly fishing. This one looked interesting to me. As I read the book I was pleased to find out that I have fished many of the exact rivers the authors Vanzanten and Beck have written about. Each story perfectly describes the experience of fly fishing in the western U.S., along with the experiences of friendship, life and humor, as they go along with fly-fishing. Many of the stories made me laugh out loud as the writing is very humorous but also because many similar things have happened to me. Like a lot of outdoor sports, fly fishing tends to become a part of your personal life and it is sometimes hard to separate the two. So many of the conversations and experiences in this book are almost exactly the same as ones I have had in my life, some as recently as this week, such as staying in getto hotels to save money and fish somewhere special, or having a really lousy day on the water. Vanzaten and Beck see the humor, and sometimes you just have to laugh. The book is not a how-to-book or a guide-book, it is much more than that. The book has "rules" for fishing, but these are more metaphorical or tounge-in-cheek, he stories are more like what you would want to read after you get back from a trip than something you'd read to learn how to fish. There are several stories that discuss that aspect of fishing with friends as opposed to going alone that all fly-fishers will immediately relate to. In many ways it is a book about fishing buddies and how they are a part of your life. I was also pleased to see that there was a section of color photos in the middle that are incredible. I visited the Wind Rivers as a kid and the photos in this book capture the stunning beauty of that area. It made me want to go again immediately! There are other amazing photos of fish and rivers that will make you feel like you are on the water again. I have a feeling I will re-read these stories and share them with my own fishing buddies and family. I give this book 5 stars plus.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. for anglers and greenies By cakehat I bought this book for my husband. I read the essays aloud to him (in the car on our way to the river) and I have been equally captivated by the beautiful narrative, heart, and humor of the essays.

However, once I started reading it, it really hit a chord and I read it from start to finish in one reading. Limitless really spoke to me, and I think it would speak to anyone who has doubts, fears, or anything that is holding them back in their lives. Now all I need to do is take those awesome word's of wisdom and incorporate them into my new venture that has been somewhat discouraging. I highlighted key phrases that I know will help me when those demons of fear, self-doubt, and lack of confidence plague me, so I can quickly refer back to them. This book couldn't have came at a better time. I highly recommend Limitless to anyone who ever finds themselves feeling held back by limiting thoughts, fears, self-doubt, bitterness, lingering anger, any negatives feelings that may be holding you back. THANKS Pablo I appreciate you putting yourself out there to help others work past what is holding them back. Blessings!

By Kathleen Halldin I purchased Pablo De Leon's book, Limitless, at a book signing while visiting in Dallas and read it upon my return home to Orlando. Pablo's story of triumph through over-whelming odds and his willingness to share his story really touched me. By using very descriptive analogies, Pablo was able to bring greater revelation to his readers of the issues and solutions to many of life's universal challenges. His journey from anger and sadness to joy and triumph is a process we get to share with Pablo from the first page to the final pages of his book. I was touched by his honesty and willingness to explore his own life and for his ability to seek positive change for himself and those around him. Pablo is truly a Lion with a magnificent roar and I applaud his life and talents and share his enthusiasm for his wonderful book, Limitless!

We're all born with a dream in our heart and a fire in our belly. But then life happens and often times we push those dreams to the back in order to deal with life. In the meantime, that fire, which was once a roaring fire, is still burning somewhere inside but slowly dimming. This book helps to get that fire burning bright again. This books reminds us that we can be, do and have whatever we want. The life we want is just a thought away. Pablo writes..."You paint your life by what you create in your mind. Building a character is creating life around that character. But what makes your character come alive is believing that you are that character." This is exciting. Pablo is reminding us that our imaginations are powerful, mighty and limitless. Pablo quotes a line from the movie Matrix...."Don't think you are. Know you are." Be prepared to have any and all excuses thrown out the window. Now is the time to create your limitless life. Get this book and enjoy. Then go and BECOME.

You remember when we hurried home from the old bush school how we were sometimes startled by a bearded apparition, who smiled kindly down on us, and whom our mother introduced, as we raked off our hats, as "An old mate of your father's on the diggings, Johnny." And he would pat our heads and say we were fine boys, or girls—as the case may have been—and that we had our father's nose but our mother's eyes, or the other way about; and say that the baby was the dead spit of its mother, and then added, for father's benefit: "But yet he's like you, Tom." It did seem strange to the children to hear him address the old man by his Christian name—-considering that the mother always referred to him as "Father." She called the old mate Mr So-and-so, and father called him Bill, or something to that effect.

Unfortunately all the words are there but little else. There is no ability to navigate. Kindle make it hard not giving an indication of the user friendliness of titles. There are several of this name for varying prices , but no indication that if you pay money you will get a better version than this one - it really is buying a pig in a poke. I guess in this case you get what you pay for - nothing for nothing.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. the rythme of the words remain By Primmy Its an annoying e-book, no navigation etc. But, and its a big But, the words are Henry Lawson, and the rythme of the stories and the words used are pure. It belongs to a time long ago that holds little reality for present time, but its a truth of a time in the Australian past, and should be venerated for that alone. All it really needed was The Loaded Dog, and I would have given it 4 stars.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Interesting read but depressing. By Jay Heassler I enjoyed the book but it took discipline to stick with reading it all the way through because I'd read nearly 75% of it before I understood most of the Aussie idioms used. Only after I finished did I discover the index to them in the back of the book. Early reference to them would have been helpful. I have Australian friends, but none of their modern idioms were helpful in understanding the older terms in this book. What I got from it was the over riding poverty and hardship faced by early Australian settlers. I also learned an appreciation for how self reliant and resilient they were in order to survive the outback as well as the class system in the cities. All in all, this book is worth the read.

About the Author

Janette Norton lived in France, near Geneva, for over 30 years with her physicist husband, Alan, raising four children and working in the marketing field. Her love of mountain walking dated from the time she was a guide in her twenties, and the proximity of the Alps and Jura to her home inspired her to continue her passion. After her children grew up, she branched out to explore other areas of France.

Nye My husband and I, along with 2 friends used this book 3 separate days last month as a guide to hiking in the Dordogne region. How 4 intelligent, athletic and experienced hikers could get so lost, so many times has to be at least partially the fault of the book we were using as a reference! The writing is so unclear, directions mixed in with rambling observations - don't waste your money. Buy Lonely Planet instead, or just use the well marked national trails. The author should be ashamed.

Each hike we've done so far has been very different and each contains interesting side notes we would have missed (like the one where the trail briefly follows along a Roman built road). Also multiple times there would be a fork in the path with trail blazes indicating different routes and the author's clear directions helped us considerably. We deviated twice from what the author advocated and got lost both times. Our mantra now when we think the book is wrong is "trust the author".
