Prather Love, Incest, and the MafiaMaurice KamhiLife in the Mafia is hard, but still it holds a grim sort of fascination for us that never really goes away. In Love, Incest, and the Mafia, Maurice Kamhi capitalizes on that fascination to present readers with a realistic, if at times grisly, thriller. Kamhi's characters seem to have walked straight off the set of The Godfather. The author show a masterful handling of the dialogue of his many characters. The dialect and subtle word choices that he makes are correct for each character's background. This meticulous work on the part of Kamhi insures that readers will be able to recognize the characters and feel an authenticity that would be otherwise lacking. While the characters do belong to the world of the Mafia, Kamhi makes sure to not rely too heavily on the stereotypes of the Mafia world.Readers should not expect Kamhi's work to sugarcoat the often grotesque details in the underworld of crime. Kamhi certainly does not. There are scenes that are downright chilling and gruesome in Love, Incest, and the Mafia. Although the book does contain such scenes, readers will find that the author does not include them for mere shock value. Each of these scenes adds something to the portrait that Kamhi paints. Often in similar works, readers will find books that are replete with gratuitous violence that serves no purpose other than to shock the reader. Kamhi shows such scenes only when they are needed to forward the story and place readers into the world of Mafia crime. Kamhi shows his talent for handling the genre by keeping the action fast-paced and moving the reader quickly from scene to scene, so not too much time will be spent mulling over the gruesome details. In Love, Incest, and the Mafia, Kamhi shows himself to be adept at handling a work of crime fiction in such a way that will leave readers eagerly awaiting his next book.

He is a young vigilante that grabbed my heart in a strange way. You will get plenty of action and understand his tenacity and drive to fix problems that will peeve anyone...this is a fast paced read with a good ending. There are plenty of thought provoking scenes. I look forward to more books or maybe a sequal...his mom disappears and he is still not yet a man..hope to see more books by this author

Sports are ubiquitous in American society, and given their prominence in the culture, it is easy to understand how most youth in the United States face pressure to participate in organized sports. But what does this mean for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who live with one or more physical disabilities and, in particular, those in powered wheelchairs? Located at the intersection of sports and disability, this book tells the story of power soccer - the first competitive team sport specifically designed for electric wheelchair users. Beginning in France in the 1970s, today, over sixty teams compete within the United States Power Soccer Association (USPSA) and the sport is actively played in over thirty countries. Using ethnographic research conducted while attending practices, games, and social functions of teams from across the nation, Jeffress builds a strong case that electric wheelchair users deserve more opportunity to play sports. They deserve it because they need the same physical and psychosocial benefits from participation as their peers, who have full use of their arms and legs. It challenges the social constructions and barriers that currently stand in the way. Most importantly, this book tells the story of some amazing power soccer athletes. By Nate Simpson Although published by an academic press, this book is very accessible and has a nice narrative quality about it, which all good works of ethnography should have. This book is the only one to my knowledge on the subject of power soccer, which is an adaptive sport played by powered wheelchair users. It is very well researched and written. The author is a professor at Nicholls State University and the parent of a power soccer athlete himself, and the book is dedicated to his son, who passed away from muscular dystrophy, and two other athletes whose lives were cut short by the same disease. While the author definitely has a voice in this text, I appreciate the fact that he really showcases the athletes and allows readers to "meet" them and hear their voices throughout the text. There are even several pages of photos, which is a nice touch. Those who are fortunate enough to have this text assigned in a class or just decide to buy a copy and read it for themselves will find themselves experiencing a gamut of emotions. The narrative, although bordering on melodrama at times, is quite gripping. Some of the quotes from those who were interviewed for the book will make readers smile, some laugh, some cry, and still others angry and motivated to do more to affirm the dignity of people with physical disabilities and support efforts like power soccer. The only real negatives about the book are the price and a few typos here and there that made it through the copy editing. I purchased the hardcover and was able to get it at a discounted price direct from the publisher. Hopefully, this book will get a wide reading and be released in a paperback and get a cheaper Kindle price when that happens. I realize Ashgate is an academic press and this book is part of a series of books in its Interdisciplinary Disability Studies, but $105 for the HC and $84 for the Kindle will probably restrict its circulation to a few college classes. This is unfortunate, because this book deserves to be widely read.

I recognized that young face on the cover and knew his passion for poetry. We travelled together on motorbikes 49+ years ago. We putt-putted on tiny motorbikes from the Riviera, around the Iberian peninsula, through Southern France, onward to go round and round the Arc de triomphe de l'Étoile , and, finally to the Germany. On stops Randy would busily write lines of poetry in his notebook. None would he share with me. Randy came back into my life at a reunion three years ago and has shown up annually since then sharing his poetry with those attending. Now, at last, this wonderful collection from Randy's mind has come to life for all to share.I ripped open the package and dug in. First poem - uh huh - that's Randy. Next ten poems - I get it! I kept going. I couldn't put it down. I got to the poetic tales of Valencia and Southern France and it all came back to me. I was there. Randy brought it all back to life and I couldn't have said it better. It's a brilliant book - bringing so much to life - as it should seen.Don't like poetry? You will now!

Deadlines and lost time By The Name Is Dalton I am this man's youngest son which may lead one to believe I would be bias in my review of this nightmare of a book. But I always play for blood and I will tell you what I think about this tome in the rawest truest langauge I can muster. The opening lets you what kind of ride you can expect. Page after page drips with venom, longing and the ever present idea of "What I just killed him?" as you are riding in the back of a taxi headed anywhere.

Usually that'd be enough to appease folks, but I'm seeing a lot of complaints about Kindle's poetry layout.I've read a good chunk of this item, and it looks like Frost's original structure is preserved.Note: I've found that I enjoy reading poetry on my Kindle in landscape orientation...that way the pesky word wrap doesn't present a big distraction.

His words are simple, true, thought provoking, heart-tugging and wistful, sad, happy, joyous and lasting. "Two roads diverged" had not crossed my mind in years when I came upon a reference to it in a novel. I looked it up on Internet and read it in full. Three hours later, i read it again. 24 hours later, I ordered "Mountain Interval". So many of the poems I had forgotten about. This is one book that I am keeping close. I read from it everyday even if just for 10 minutes. I recommend it to anyone who loves all the things it brings to mind: good writing, beautiful scenery, happy times, and beautiful memories and poems that sometimes tell a tale.
