A PSALTERY CHRISTMAS contains a collection of well known songs as well as some beautiful old carols. I decided to keep my choices of music for this book religious rather than secular. There is no Santa Claus and there are no reindeer here, just the essence of a traditional Christmas. The songs are chosen for their beauty and because they go well on the psaltery. Some of these carols have obscure beginnings, and there is often a lot of conflicting information about them. For example, why are the three wise men referred to as the Kings of Cologne? And how do three ships fit into what is essentially a desert environment? I’ve tried to find something interesting about each one of the carols, and I have also included some alternate lyrics. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. So this seems to be a really great little book By Ashley Gammill So this seems to be a really great little book. For the novice musician it's great because the notes are labeled with the note names underneath the actual notes. I have been glancing through it since I got it this afternoon and I really like it overall. I have discovered a couple of typos though. First, you can't trust that the note names are correct because a C note is labeled as being an A. Furthermore, and this is a pretty glaring typo, the song labeled as Hark the Herald Angels Sing is in fact the music for It Came Upon a Midnight Clear. If you look two pages further you will find It Came Upon a Midnight Clear with the exact same music. Overall a great little book, just beware the typos.
