Great Book About Retro Action By Lord Sinclair This is a great book.If you like 1960s and 70s action movies and TV, even early eighties gear like The A-Team and all that you’ll go for it in a big way.There’s interviews with people who made Chuck Norris movies, obscure Blaxploitation movies, Burt Reynolds type moonshine runner movies, Quinn Martin cop shows, British Sweeney style cop shows, Aussie 1970s cop shows (?!) and best of all lots of spy/James Bond stuff- On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Agent for H.A.R.M, Spytrap (with Tom Adams), Our Man Flint-Dead on Target, S.H.E: Security Hazards Expert.The author is obviously a Bond nut and there’s a great interview with Mike McStay, an actor who was considered for the part around the time of Diamonds Are Forever. Reading the piece he would’ve made a good one as he’s suave and funny as hell.It’s also got some great stills, twenty or so – anyone remember Lorne Greene as private eye ‘Griff’? Anyone seen James Brolin in High Risk? What about The London Connection, a 1970’s Disney Bond copy?Speaking of Bond, everybody in this book reckons Roger Moore is a top chap, and Robert Wagner is too!It’s not just fan stuff either, there’s lots of nuts and bolts stuff about staging actors and the techniques and trials of directing as well.It’s a bit pricey, but if you’re up for this kind of book, it’s money well spent as there’s not a lot out there that’s like it.

By La Mascara Don't be put off by the corny title, this is a great book for lovers of action movies and TV from the UK, USA, and Australia. It's a collection of interviews with writers, directors, and actors who worked extensively in the action genre mostly during the 60s,70s,and 80s. And it's not just the usual lineup of lionized hacks and overrated auteurs either. Taylor has sought out people who established themselves as "journeymen" [and women] in their fields, and with his enthusiasm for, and knowledge of their work he elicits frank responses and amusing anecdotes from them. You may not recognize all of the names or even the faces [though there are a few well chosen illustrations to assist], but I guarantee you'll be seeking out their work once you've read about it here.
