When I first got it home, I intended to read a couple of pages but once started I couldn't put it down! It brought out so many emotions. This book of poems made me truly believe that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I have never been a big fan of poetry but Mr. Rodriguez has opened a new door for me. JR hit SO many subjects, I couldn't help but relate to, that I could not put it down for a second! I could pick a few favorites but I'm afraid nearly the whole book would be highlighted. From "Image", "This Tear", "That Song" to the "The Forgotten One", JR taps into human emotion and makes it so fresh for the reader, like the scent of rain. Purely beautiful.

Praise for The Bomb That Never Was

“Hitler has the bomb, and it's headed for the Usa. This meticulously researched historical novel will have you asking, 'What if?' This is an intelligent, fast-paced page-turner that will make you forget that you already know how it all turns out. Provocative, informative, and entertaining-I couldn't put it down.”

-Joseph P. DeSario, author of Limbo and Sanctuary and coauthor of Crusade: Undercover Against the Mafia & Kgb

“Authoritative and credible in its attention to detail, The Bomb That Never Was captures the spirit and temper of the Wwii years and raises some deep philosophical questions about loyalty, treason, and commitment to country. A page-turner . . . tough to put down . . . a story well told.”

-Robert L. Aaron, journalist and public relations executive

The September sun was glinting cheerfully into a pretty bedroom furnished with blue. It danced on the glossy hair and bright eyes of two girls, who sat together hemming ruffles for a white muslin dress. The half-finished skirt of the dress lay on the bed; and as each crisp ruffle was completed, the girls added it to the snowy heap, which looked like a drift of transparent clouds or a pile of foamy white-of-egg beaten stiff enough to stand alone.

In a spell of nostalgia I reread the series and..... loved every one of the stories yet again. I have no hesitation in saying that the joy of reading books wherein I have no fear of cuss words OR any sexual activities leaves me in a euphoria of contentment. These books are undeniably educational and have the added bliss of being beautifully written. Ah for a return of innocence and delight in the striving for true goodness.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Katy becomes a young woman By Joanna M In this third novel about Katy Carr, our protagonist is a young woman, having completed the New England boarding school with younger sister Clover a year prior. But Katy's education is far from over - she's just been invited to accompany her friend Mrs. Ash, a young widow with an eight-year-old daughter Amy, for a year-long tour of Europe.Naturally, Katy is thrilled. It's the opportunity of a lifetime, as the generous Mrs. Ash has offered to pay all Katy's expenses in exchange for her company. As sad as Katy is to leave her siblings and widowed father for so long, she wants to go and knows she should. In the months that following, the trio visits numerous countries, including Italy, England and France, having both wonderful new experiences and a few close calls. Yet about two-thirds into their journey, a desperate situation may call an end to everything...While this book was overall enjoyable, I just didn't feel the same way as I did about the first two Katy books. Somehow, the book had a different feel, perhaps simply because Katy was the only Carr throughout most of it. In some parts, it felt almost like a history or geography book, as the tourists visit European landmarks and historic spots, citing the background of cities, tombstones and other places at length. This was explained as being due to Katy's intense interest in the places she was visiting, but somehow, that just didn't sit well with me. Personally, I would prefer more of a character-driven novel, as the first two books were. Still, if you enjoyed reading about Katy's adolescent and teen years, you'll want to read this volume as well, if only to continue keeping up with how her life unfolds.

However, I was very sad that I didn't look at the preview before purchasing. Many of the words in this edition run together. For example, in the very first sentence they've invented the word "bedroomfurnished." I couldn't read any further--Very annoying!

SILAS MARNER; The Weaver of Raveloe (Illustrated), by George Eliot

From Library Journal This 19th-century classic, read by Andrew Sachs, is a tale of betrayal, gold, and love, encased in the elegant symmetrical structure so popular in traditional English fiction, featuring Marner, the weaver, who is framed for theft by his best friend and becomes a recluse, focusing his strong affections only on the store of golden coins he receives in payment for his work. As usual, Chivers has produced an excellent audio presentation of a literary masterpiece. Alas, in this day and age fewer and fewer readers not enrolled in literature classes actually read the works of what are frequently referred to as "dead white males" even if, as in this case, they were actually written by a woman. For this reason, this title is recommended for all academic but only larger public libraries.-I. Pour-El, Iowa State Univ., Ames Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Review "I think Silas Marner holds a higher place than any of the author's works. It is more nearly a masterpiece; it has more of that simple, rounded, consummate aspect. . .which marks a classical work."—Henry James

Answer: Make her read it for 7th grade English class, make sure that the language is old-fashioned, and above all, make sure that the ideas and concepts are over her head. If that's what happened to you, and that's why you have an aversion to Silas Marner, and you are now over 30, pick it up again. Read it twice. Silas Marner is one of the greatest novels in the English language.Yes, it starts out sad, as our pathetic hero looses both his trust in humanity and his faith in God. But the power of love replaces his lust for money, and wins out in the end. Meanwhile, morally poor but financially rich, high-living Godfrey Cass provides a counterpoint to simple Silas. At the end there's a surprise when the fate of Godfrey's evil brother is revealed. When you're all done, before you file Silas Marner on the shelf, go back and read the paragraph about Silas' thoughts when he discovers that his hordes of coins are missing. If you have ever felt sudden extreme loss, you will recognize the stages of despair from disbelief to acceptance "like a man falling into dark water." Which is why this book is not suitable for children, and is most appreciated by those who have undergone their own moral redemption.Silas has been the inspiration for many other characters, including Dicken's Scrooge. He has been portrayed in movies, including "A Simple Twist of Fate" starring Steve Martin. But none is as good as the original. If you haven't read it since junior high, try it again. Silas Marner is an excellent book. There's a gem of human understanding in every chapter.

In this story, George Eliot (pen name for Mary Ann Evans) depicts a man named Silas Marner, a weaver by trade. He lives happily in his home town of Lantern Yard, until his best friend William Dane betrays him by setting him up as a thief. William then marries Silas' fiancée, and Silas is shunned from the town. He eventually settles in a very small cottage in Raveloe, where he spends his days making cloth and other materials for the townspeople. Due to his now secretive and reclusive ways, the people of Raveloe never really come to know Silas, and he lives in solitude, having turned away from his former faith and happiness. But one winter's night, a small orphan girl comes to his house, and everything changes. Silas cares for the child (with the help of his neighbor, Mrs. Winthrop, whose family soon befriends him), and his heart begins to soften. This is a very good representation of the redeeming power of love, and the consequences of a person's actions. For people who enjoy classic literature, this is definitely a must-read.Ryan RobledoAuthor of the Aelnathan:

You are better coming to it fresh, without knowing anything of the simple yet solid plot, so I will say nothing of it. I will just urge you to read this wonderful book. Eliot writes beautifully and from page one, you realize you are in the hands of a true artist. This is a very human, very English story of simple people living through those very basic emotions that make the world turn and give the universe meaning.

I am old, else, I think, I should not have the courage to tell the story I am going to tell. All those concerned in it about whose feelings I am careful, are gone where, thank God, there are no secrets! If they know what I am doing, I know they do not mind. If they were alive to read as I record, they might perhaps now and again look a little paler and wish the leaf turned, but to see the things set down would not make them unhappy: they do not love secrecy. Half the misery in the world comes from trying to look, instead of trying to be, what one is not. I would that not God only but all good men and women might see me through and through.

Unlike many of George MacDonald's other novels, you will find none of the author's preaching and musing. The story is seen through the eyes of Mrs. Day as she records the episodes from her life in a journal. The book is shorter than many of MacDonald's other books, but unveils many valuable truths in the telling of the story. What is the insideous secret behind the behavior of John's mother? And why does Belorba's uncle appear on the moor at night during the storm when he is believed to be at home? What is the terrible secret he is ashamed to admit that torments him throughout his life? As with all of MacDonald's works, this book is chock full of spiritual nourishment. I was especially touched by Belorba's deep love for her uncle and his love for her. Reading about John's mother, her own spoiling upbringing and her desire to control every aspect of her son's life, was so poignant as to make me feel not a little unsettled in some of my own parenting practices. The Flight of the Shadow is a beautiful book which I will enjoy reading again. It is an easy read with no dialect and no veering from the story as occurs in other MacDonald books.

Historical Mystery Weaved Full of God's Love By Janet Reeves Though the book is sometimes hard to follow due to its historical setting and language style, it is definitely worth the effort. As Belorba and her fiance' struggle to solve the mysteries of their ancestors' pasts in order to clear the way for a happy marriage, they cling to God's faithfulness and discover His loving, yet sovereign plan. Belorba's unique narrative style makes the reader feel like a present listener. The surprise ending neatly, and delightfully, ties up all loose ends.

Even reading it the second time, I couldn't put it down. And like all of his books you need not be concerned with any inappropriate material.

P offers an allegorical look at poverty in America. As a young mother, Positively has five children and a health condition. She craves for a better life for herself and her children free from the appalling conditions of American poverty. As the castoffs of society, Positively and her children are drafted to the 51st State of America called No Where. They must remain in this State until the government amends their anti-poverty law, and Positive's American citizenship is restored. In No Where, she discovers the different causes of poverty besides her own struggle of being educated and a single mother who can't provide for her family. She meets Escape and Ms. Sorrow, who share their stories and hopes for freedom. In the end, Positively must decide if the draft of her family is the end of her dreams or if she should continue to appeal to the American government.

2 of 4 people found the following review helpful. P should stand for, "positively needs an editor" By Amazon Customer I liked the basic idea and premise of the book. Beyond that, I found the writing very dense and overly reliant on simile and metaphors. Here is an example:"A brown carpet was extended from the entrance past the reception desk and downstairs to the youth area of the Old Library. It had high ceilings and books on shelves that appeared to be waiting for someone to choose them for a formal dance in their mind like they were at a royal ball of knowledge. Large and small study tables with many lamps stood in rows of two in a center space in front of the shelves lonely and deserted by scholars."Allegory is great, but not when it's too obvious and blatant. Of course, Positively Chose is the name of the protagonist and her children all have names with a positive spin. She runs into characters named (predictably enough) Miss Escape, Miss Sorrow, and an antagonist named Lady Lost. I also found it interesting that one of the most negative characters, "Miss Deceitful Ways" is the only one whose ethnicity (Haitian) is specifically mentioned. I was surprised that the author included a negative review of the Affordable Care Act (called here, the No Mercy Medical Care Act.) My advice to the author would be to keep writing, find a good writer's workshop, and most importantly, find a good editor to fix some of the issues such as sentence-verb agreement, misused words (waist instead of waste), and tense shifts, in order to help prepare the manuscript for publication.

It is nowhere better explained than in this guide to managing the course By john klisz I am familiar with Jon Sherman through his website and social media exchanges so I read this knowing his philosophy of the sport. Keep it simple and keep it 'practical' by employing common sense strategies in your golf game. It is nowhere better explained than in this guide to managing the course. He takes the complex and sometimes intimidating sport of golf and presents an approach to the course that can be, and should be, embraced by players of all skill levels. It reads like an interesting golf article you don't want to end, and I judge it to have more actionable advice than a year's worth of any golf magazine. So, read this book - you will play better immediately by playing smarter and gaining the confidence that comes from understanding the course better. I look for more to come from this author.

By Rusty Cage Course management isn't necessarily a difficult subject to catalog and explain, but the vast majority of golf instruction books have done a significantly poor job of conveying the material in a clear and concise manner. Jon, on the other hand, cuts right to the chase and offers a real simple plan for anyone trying to improve their tee-to-green game. All facets of the short game (including some great advice about getting the most out of your long game) are broken down into easy-to-read chapters with practical advice from the author. No, this book won't help you cure your slice or get another 20 yards from your tee shots. Late on a September afternoon, in the year 1913, two boys returned to Friar's Court by way of the woods. Each carried a gun under his arm, and a well-bred Irish water-spaniel followed close upon their heels. They were of about the same age, though it would have been apparent, even to the most casual observer, that they stood to one another in the relation of master to man.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good Adventure Story By Ray Riddle I have to say, though I was a little disappointed by a few things, this was a good fast read. As an adventure story, it works well enough. The information to understand what is going to happen, and why, is provided at the beginning, and the story moves from there. There are no plot twists or surprising moments, which was a little disappointing. The story is set up right at the beginning and follows a straight line through to the end. It doesn't make you think at all, or wonder about various possibilities. The main characters either succeed, or they don't. However, if you look past that, it's a pretty good book. It's a straight adventure story, and the main characters do get into some harrowing situations. My main problem with the book is likely one that wouldn't bother anyone else. I found the book by looking up things on Cameroon, while a slight mood of homesickness overcame me. Considering the book is called "Across the Cameroons" I figured I might get a feel for the place. I didn't. The landscape is barely described, and really, aside from naming Dualla, could have taken place anywhere. I did like the time frame, how the events in the book take place just before and during World War One. While the characters do not join in the war, it finds them regardless, and affects what happens throughout the book. It gave the story more of a "sit on the edge of your seat" feel, and more for the characters to have to deal with, and watch out for. All in all, I liked it, and aside from the things that likely wouldn't bother anyone else, works as a straight adventure story. Worth the read.

An epic coming-of-age novel about the bonds and history between two men that intertwine their families together—for better and for worse.Steve is a seventeen-year-old runaway when he meets, Juan, the son of a fugitive drug lord. The two work together, deep in the Calaveras Mountains of California, on a large marijuana-growing operation run by Juan’s father. Their friendship is fueled by the brutal conditions and horrific events that define their day-to-day lives. The utter loneliness of their world creates a lasting bond, and the boys finally escape. Steve knows the two will be friends for life; Juan hopes they will be something more. When they grow to manhood, Juan’s love for Steve endures. Steve marries, has children, and fulfills his dream of becoming a journalist for San Francisco’s leading newspaper. Juan becomes a famous artist who loves Steve’s son as though the boy was his own, confessing to Steve that, “He is the only part of you that I can ever claim.” By turns heartbreaking, emotional, and provocative, And Yesterday Is Gone is a must-read novel about the changes—unexpected, unacceptable, and life-threatening—that can alter our lives over the decades.

Her writing never let up down in it's pace, complexity, and suspense as I worried what would happen next. Throughout the pages I found an element of the divine watching over us, lessons on life and love, and wisdom of the ages interspersed with humor. My favorite sentence included a "middle-finger" salute from L.A. Rarely, has a book evoked so many ideas and questions that I sensed the start of my own journey in it's end pages.
