Lotteries. They have been called both a tax on stupidity and a math tax. The odds of losing are so high as to be practically guaranteed. Yet 57% of the US population buys a lottery ticket at least once a year.

You may already be familiar with some of the winners. Winners make headlines.

Winners buy new homes, new cars. What do they losers do?

Some get upset. Some just shrug; there's always next time. Others are just happy to have briefly entertained the fantasy of being disgustingly rich. But it's unlikely that any of us considers how lucky we might have been to have lost. A full 70% of lottery winners not only lose all the money within a few years, but they end up much unhappier than they could have imagined back when all they had was a dollar and a dream.

We could have brought you a book about some of our favorite winning lottery tickets. Instead, here's a look at some of the tickets that lost.

They may be luckier.

A lucky number By DittoInk If I spent all the money I've spent playing the lottery on just copies of this book, I could probably fill the local library with them. So, buying this was a better investment. I just regret that there was nothing to scratch off, though there were a few activity pages at the end, one in particular making me do a spit take. Also there's a more serious side, namely about the fates of winners -- and I for one will never envy a winner again. But I probably won't stop playing or trying to win.Good gift if you have any lottery addicts in your life.

These people deserved what they got, taking their filthy lucre and trying to magic it into more filthy lucre. Only the LORD has that power. I keep this book right next to my Holy Writ, to remind myself, when Old Nick tempts me with the siren call of the lottery vending machines, that gambling is BAD. Thank you, Lester and Charlie, for this holy reminder. You keep me away from the Lucky 7s, the Treasure Chests and the Bacon Bucks. Also, I don't see why old people and schools should get any of my money.

And it's kind of fun to have a book with that title next to the couch.

Montgomery IS The Story Girl By Sandra Mitchell It's no wonder that the lady who has gifted us with the Anne of Green Gables series created a character referred to as The Story Girl, one who could transport her audience to a far-away, magical place through the gift of storytelling. As a huge fan of Anne of Green Gables, discovering that The Story Girl was Lucy Maude Montgomery's personal favorite of the works she had written, I anxiously began The Story Girl. It is the charming story of Sara Stanley, the Story Girl, who lives in Carlisle, with her cousins and the hired boy Peter. Told from the perspective of Beverly King, who has moved to Carlisle with his pudgy brother Felix, while their widowed father is working in a foreign land, Beverly and Felix become enchanted with their new life, hanging out with The Story Girl, beautiful cousin Felicity, sweet, endearing cousin Cecily, practical cousin Dan, and the hired boy Peter.Though Peter is not family, his hard-working, considerate, loyal personality make the rest of the cousins slowlybut surely come to accept him as part of the group. One can't help but wonder if L.M. Montgomery IS the real life Story Girl, one who is well known in Carlisle for being the most magnificent storyteller around. Her magical gift of telling stories captivates her audience, both adults and children. Her stories combined with all sorts of amusing antics the children get into compromise the heart of this novel. The kids will have you in stitches, as they come up with a contest to see who can deliver the best preacher's sermon and the lengths they will go to for coming up with schemes to see who can have the best, most vivid dreams. As always, Montgomery is able to deliver a timeless classic that is wholesome, yet just as powerfully movingand entertaining nearly a century later. It is written that Montgomery was quite sad to say goodbye to these characters as she completed the last page, and it is no wonder that the reader is left feeling quite the same way. Fortunately, the stories go on in the sequel, The Golden Road.

I own every one of Montgomery's books (except for "Pat of Silver Bush", lost at my friend's house); they occupy a special shelf. While I love all of them, a few I have read again and again. Almost every year I find my way "The Story Girl" and "The Golden Road", getting a prickly, wistful feeling that tells me to read them. I could identify with the characters because they were my age, and although I am a bit older now I don't think that I will stop reading them. Sarah Stanley and Bev were always my favorites, but I loved Cecily because she was so sweet, and Peter because he tried so hard. The few "Avolea" shows that I have seen were good, but changed too much from what Montgomery wrote. Other good books from P.E.I.: "The Blue Castle": I love this story because Valancy defies all conventions and creates a wonderful life for herself. I love the descriptions of the Canadian forests and lakes and the evolution of her relationship with Barney. "Jane of Lantern Hill": Also a good movie, this story is very modern in that it deals with separated parents. It is filled with the sweetness that pervades all of her books. "Emily of New Moon": I like her better than Anne, she's quiet and mysterious, feline and shadowy. The triad of books evolves her character realisticly, especially her friendships with Perry and Ilse and Teddy.

English is not my native language, I got to know "The Story Girl" in translation - and a good one, too - but I have always longed to read it in English and to find out how Maud herself wrote it. The book is amazing, written from a perspective of an adult, it gives an account of childhood. When I read "The Story Girl" I always get the feeling I'm in someone's memories - slightly blurred and in gold coulours. I love the book and I wholeheartedly recommend it - have you known it was Maud's favourite? The edition isn't beautiful, but it's cheap, and for some people, me included, that matters.

"Chris Lehto is onto something here" - "A page turner"

By combining proven training techniques, entertaining and motivational fighter pilot anecdotes, and a sound scientific approach, Stay on Target is a paradigm shifting guidebook that will change the way you approach fitness and nutrition.Whether you are a beginner or a serious athlete, you can learn how to get the body you have always wanted. Author and experienced F-16 instructor pilot Chris Lehto will show you why you have not reached your fitness objectives in the past. It starts by understanding that our current system is flawed:
  • Your body doesn’t burn food. Our current calorie counting system is over 100 years old and is incorrect.
  • Nobody knows how to correctly measure calories used in resistance training. We measure anaerobic processes through oxygen (these processes are an-aerobic).
  • Fad diets are not sustainable.
  • Long sessions of cardio are boring and inefficient.
This book will take you through everything you need to know to apply an effective and sustainable long-term program in your own life. You will learn to apply the same mindset and techniques to your fitness and nutrition programs that fighter pilots use to consistently perform under high-stress conditions.PART 1 - MINDSETDevelop consistency in your fitness program. Use processes that will change your mindset from "I don't have the time," to "I can't wait to see my progress this week."PART 2 - WORKOUTLearn the most effective way to lose fat and gain muscle in the least amount of time. By using resistance training, compound movements, and a small amount of cardio after you lift, you can maximize fat loss and minimize time. You will have a stronger, leaner body in less time.PART 3 - NUTRITIONDevelop a long term livable diet. Keep your food to approximately 1/3 fats, 1/3 carbs, and 1/3 protein. Eat absolutely whatever you want one day a week and be amazed when you reach your fitness goals. Stay on Target explains clearly how to use simple combat proven techniques to maintain motivation, increase the effectiveness of your workouts, and stick with a livable long term food plan. With anecdotes and scientific evidence, Chris explains that it’s not about intensity of effort, it’s about consistency. Stay on Target will change the way you approach fitness and nutrition. It will give you a step-by-step guide to get in the best shape of your life and have fun while doing it.

Use this book to Stay on Target, and get in the best shape of your life.

Then you start an excercise program, only to give up a few weeks later when life gets in the way. If you're like me, many times. It's human nature. You can only focus on so many things at once. When you work out for a few weeks and don't become a fitness model or look like the people in the commercial, it's easy to get frustrated and let that goal go by the way side. This book, gives you a very simple plan to follow, so that you don't have to be a fat piece of s#!% for the rest of your life and die a miserable debilitated death. At any age, in any shape, Lehto's wisdom can help you. There are hundreds of fitness plans and diets out there; each promising some "magic bullet." It makes it seem like losing weight is a super complicated process. But it is not. The main problem with most plans is YOU failing to stick with them. It's YOU failing to have an kind of metrics to measure whether or not you are succeeding! It's YOU believing the hyoe and thinking Shaun T is going to take you from an obese mouth-breather to a cover model in 90 days. Lehto shows you the fallicy in this thinking and gives you the tools you need to get to where you want in very easy to follow language. He gives you very easy but practical knowledge on maintaining a diet, the excercises you need to be doing and what you need to do, to stay focused and get to where you want to be. One day at a time.I loved this book. I have been employing his methods for five months now and am seeing some great results. Very slowly, and its taking more time than i wouldhave thought, I am seeing my abs, which I never have. The advice Lehto gives on achieving your fitness goals can easily be applied anything you want to accomplish. Find your target. Think of the steps reach that target. Look for the threats that get in the way. Create a plan to counter those threats. Adjust your plan as needed to get to the end goal.Besides being packed with great advice, it's an awesome and fun read from all of the great stories, Lehto sprinkles in throughout the book about his experience as a fighter pilot. I hope he writes another book just of those because the dude is a bad ass. He's definitely in my OODA loop now and thanks to him, I feel armed and ready to achieve my fitness goals!

He takes a refreshing approach at starting out ( unlike the conventional bland startups we've all seen) not only do you learn it from a fighter pilots perspective, it's also extremely interesting to hear about what all he's done over the years. From doing multinational missions over seas, to training new pilots.

Kirby I received an advanced copy of this book from a friend (that thought I needed it lol) and I'm so glad I read it. It's been life changing to convince my husband and I that we need to exercise as a part of our real life and that it doesn't have to be torture. Not occasionally or when we're on a "health kick" but to earnestly and permanently change our thinking towards our bodies and how important they are to our happiness and longevity. THAT IS WHAT THIS BOOK DID FOR US! We really identified with all the excuses mentioned in the book, and specifically how you can stick with some diet/exercise plans for a month or two but not forever. But this book addressed how to overcome those excuses, it laid out step by step how to reorient our thinking, prepare for threats to our success, and steadily improve... not just our appearance, but our body strength, our eating, and our perspective. seriously. One thing that really helped me was the emphasis on tracking my progress. Just like the writer said, there were many times when i felt discouraged. But tracking my weight and waist measurements each week made a huge difference. Sometimes the scale didn't say I was losing weight fast enough but my stomach was getting smaller! In the past I've always lost motivation because the scale didn't decrease enough but combining both makes me see the bigger picture. and I'm stronger. I have three kids and I can tell when I lift them and chase them, that I'm stronger and healthier. I now have a plan I think I can stick with. My husband's back pain has completely gone away after following the exercise plan and that is proof enough for him to be a convert. But he also likes that you don't have to give up carbs, because that's not a realistic long-term goal :-) We liked that the writers voice is personable and motivational and we both thought it had some good humor as well. We also enjoyed the stories and analogies woven throughout of being a fighter pilot. It kept the read really interesting but all examples were very applicable. We highly and sincerely recommend this book!

King Arthur and His Knights, by Maude Radford Warren

Review The characters are legendary: King Arthur, Lady Guinevere, the wizard Merlin, the sorceress Morgan le Fay, the knights of the Round Table. Their stories are rich in magic and intrigue. In one adventure, Arthur will lose his life unless he can discover the answer to this riddle: What do women most desire? Arthur asks many people and receives many different answers. Some say that women chiefly desire wealth. Some say beauty. Some say the power to please others. Feeling that none of the answers is right, Arthur searches on. But time is running out. --From the Publisher

These 21 stories, though simplistic (meant for children 9 and older), are very nicely written, quality works of literature. The stories create true anticipation and excitement as you wonder the outcome of the various battles. You'll appreciate the qualities which made knights knights--virtue, courage, loyalty, chivalry, and so many others. What values to share with our children in a world that turns good into bad and bad into good! If you want to share quality tales about the Round Table with your elementary-aged children, you have found a gem in this text!

SAILING A DREAM: To an Incredible Life, by Karl Livengood

About the Author Born in Cleveland in 1938, I grew up in the small town of Aurora. As a youth, I loved to canoe in Northern Ontario. Majoring in sociology and psychology, I attended Hiram College and Case-Western Reserve Univ. graduating with a Master's Degree in Social Work. My first job was working with street gangs in San Francisco's Mission District. My first sailboat was a Clipper MK21 which I trailered to Mexcio and crossed the Sea of Cortez. My life changed when I bought a ranch and joined the "Back to the Land" movement in the Trinity Mountains of Northern California. I build my own log house and barn while raising goats, rabbits, chickens, cows, and pigs. In 1980 I returned to Oakland and started a construction business which supported my sailing habits. AURORA, my cruising boat, was purchased in 1981 and in 1988 I sailed it to Mexico. I married JoAnne in 1990, and 1991 we began cruising that eventually took us from the Sea of Cortez to Marmaris, Turkey on the eastern side of the Mediterranean, about 20,000 miles. JoAnne passed away in 2005 after many years as my wife and first mate. I currently life in Rossmoor located in Walnut Creek, California with my new wife Betsy with whom I have shared more adventures spread over five continents.

Mr. Livengood's trip was, I'm sure, the envy of most of us. He describes the sailing adventure as if we were there ourselves, both the good and the bad. He also give us a real historical trip to all the places he stopped, anchored , and visited so that we get a his sense of the excitement and the history that he experienced and the culture of the people. He also gives us a view into all the friendships one makes by being part of the cruising community, and we get a sense of what it is like to be at sea for such a very long time. All in all a great book to sink your teeth into.Jacci Osborn

Karl's autobiography is genuine, inspiring, and relatable By Tracy Downing This book calls to all who have a big dream but see no way toward its fulfillment. Karl takes readers through a personal and candid account of how a midwestern kid raised on dry land became a man who conquered all doubts by sailing across an ocean. It is a feel good read and by the end you'll be cheering Aurora's crew across the Atlantic and charting your own course toward the destinations of your dreams.

By Yosemite Bruce "Sailing a Dream" is an enjoyable book to read. It's a rich account, with vivid images of far away places and amazing experiences. The author dreamed of someday owning a sailboat and doing extensive travel. He took the steps to prepare himself and to make his dream a reality. His enthusiasm is infectious. We take part in the incredible things he experienced in his travels, and also the amazing feelings of fulfillment that wash over him as he lives this dream and accomplishes major and minor steps along the way. Gregarious, interested, and respectful of the people they encounter, Karl and his wife JoAnne are welcomed and trusted by the people they meet along the way. They develop lasting friendships with other sailors and exchange experiences and information with them that later proves invaluable and lifesaving. They're welcomed into the humble homes of indigenous people on rarely visited islands and become almost a part of the family for a time. They approach people with a love and helpfulness that opens their hearts, so the book is full of amazing experiences of givingness and generosity, not only from them but also reciprocated many-fold by the people they are meeting. For people who sail, the details throughout are helpful. Karl tells about meeting mechanical and weather challenges along the way and of the ingenious solutions he and his crew came up with to make it successfully to the next port. He knows his boat and its systems, carries spare parts, and knows how to make do in a pinch. The main journey starts in San Francisco Bay, then on to the Sea of Cortez in Mexico, down along Central America, through the Panama Canal, through many ports in the Caribbean, to Key West and up the coast of the Eastern US all the way to Nova Scotia, then ending back in North Carolina. Then after months of preparation, he and a crew of 4 friends sail this 33 ft. sailboat to Bermuda then across the Atlantic Ocean all the way to the Azores and on to Portugal. Once again joined by his wife JoAnne, he heads south through the Straits of Gibraltar then hugs the coast of Spain, Italy, Greece, Croatia and Turkey. They're joined on the boat often by visiting friends and family throughout the various legs of their journey. With a keen interest in other cultures, local history and legends, Karl has interesting details to share about all of these amazing places. For example: In Belize, due to a previous friendship with the head archaeologist, they were able to visit an active new archaeological dig at a Mayan site that was off limits to the public. He shares a rich lesson in Mayan civilization straight from this expert. It's a truly enjoyable travel book for sure, but more than that, the author taught me by his example how to live a rich and inspiring life of friendship, love, hard work and zest for life while following a personal dream. It was a treat to be able to experience it all beside him. The book made me feel like a parrot, sitting on the captain's shoulder and taking it all in. Fascinating!

More than thirty years ago two atoms of the eternal Energy sped forth from the heart of it which we call God, and incarnated themselves in the human shapes that were destined to hold them for a while, as vases hold perfumes, or goblets wine, or as sparks of everlasting radium inhabit the bowels of the rock. Perhaps these two atoms, or essences, or monads indestructible, did but repeat an adventure, or many, many adventures. Perhaps again and again they had proceeded from that Home august and imperishable on certain mornings of the days of Time, to return thither at noon or nightfall, laden with the fruits of gained experience. So at least one of them seemed to tell the other before all was done and that other came to believe. If so, over what fields did they roam throughout the æons, they who having no end, could have no beginning? Not those of this world only, we may be sure. It is so small and there are so many others, millions upon millions of them, and such an infinite variety of knowledge is needed to shape the soul of man, even though it remain as yet imperfect and but a shadow of what it shall be.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Gold Mine For The Truly Romantic At Heart By s.ferber Although English author H. Rider Haggard is popularly known today as "the father of the lost race novel," such adventure tales of vanished civilizations were scarcely his sole concern. As any reader who has pursued this writer further than his "big 3" (1885's "King Solomon's Mines," 1887's "Allan Quatermain" and 1887's "She") would tell you, Haggard was also very much concerned with the matter of reincarnation and with what I suppose we might call "love that survives beyond the grave." These two themes comprise the very heart of "She" and its three sequels (1905's "Ayesha," 1921's "She and Allan" and 1923's "Wisdom's Daughter") and crop up in such disparate works of the author as his very first, "Dawn" (1884), and "Stella Fregelius" (1904). But perhaps the author's most concise statement on these two matters is to be found in his beautifully written but largely forgotten novel simply entitled "Love Eternal." Written in 1916 but not published until April 1918, it is a work that is obviously very close to its author's heart, and one that draws largely on his own youthful experiences. In the novel, Haggard's 47th out of an eventual 58, the reader encounters the young Godfrey Knight, the son of a puritanical parson, who lives in the Essex countryside. From childhood on, he and his neighbor, Isobel Blake, the daughter of a wealthy, boorish shipping magnate, have been strangely drawn to one another, although their natures are wholly dissimilar. Whereas Godfrey is a dreamer who dwells on matters both metaphysical and astronomical, Isobel is a hardheaded materialist who disbelieves all that she cannot prove and see, pooh-poohing Godfrey's talk of reincarnation and such sundry matters. The two are separated at age 17, when Godfrey is sent to Switzerland by his father to learn French and to remove him from Isobel's irreligious influence. Once in Lucerne, Godfrey meets a dying benefactress and falls afoul of a group of spiritualists (the head spiritualist, Madame Riennes, whom Haggard depicts as a sort of Madame Blavatsky type, will remain Godfrey's nemesis throughout this longish story). Later, he returns to Essex and declares his love for Isobel but is separated from her once again by military service, a lengthy stay in India, and the travails of World War 1. Ultimately, despite their fathers' many attempts to keep them apart, the two DO unite in holy matrimony, but unfortunately, their earthly happiness is a short-lived one. But, as the author makes abundantly clear, their reunion in the realm of the afterlife will surely be a glorious one....I mentioned just before how Haggard drew on his own early experiences in writing this heartfelt tale, and this is very much the case. Haggard's father had also sent him to Switzerland to learn French when he was 16; like Godfrey, Haggard studied at the Scoones establishment to prepare for the Sandhurst entrance exams; and just as Godfrey gets mixed up with a group of spiritualists, so had the young Haggard...in his case, in London. Haggard was a great lover of orchids, and here, Godfrey and his Swiss friend, Juliette, engage in a hunt for a rare blossom in the heights of the Alps (of course, this quest is not nearly as lengthy as the one detailed in 1915's "Allan and the Holy Flower"). The author, who would write 14 novels dealing with the hunter Allan Quatermain, eventually grew to detest hunting for sport, as blisteringly spelled out in his short novel of 1911, "The Mahatma and the Hare," and here, Godfrey too becomes sickened during a fox hunt, and swears off the sport for good. Haggard, who remained in love with his childhood infatuation "Lilly" (born Mary Elizabeth Jackson) all throughout his married life to Louisa Margitson, wrote often of men whose ideal love was, well, not their wife, in novels such as "Beatrice" (1890) and "Mary of Marion Isle" (a posthumous novel, released four years after Haggard's 1925 passing). In "Love Eternal," this other favorite theme of Haggard's does not actually figure, although both Mr. Knight and Mr. Blake are shown to be quite unhappily married, and Godfrey IS at one point pushed into a relationship with the empty-headed Juliette, with whom he has absolutely nothing in common. Haggard, during the course of his story, also gets to air his opinions on religion (he seems to be anti-Papist and to even have problems with the Anglican church), sex ("the eating fire that is so beautiful but burns"), the peerage (though made a knight in 1919, the author still has some harsh words to say about the patronage system), and that Scoones school. And in his only misstep in the book, he refers to the Victoria & Albert Museum as the South Kensington Museum, despite that institution's name change in 1899. I know, I know... who cares, right?Even in his more traditional historical fictions and star-crossed romances, Haggard, great fantasist that he was, was likely to add a dash of the otherworldly or supernatural, and "Love Eternal" is surely no exception. Thus, Godfrey is shown to possess powers of clairvoyance, to a limited degree, and the vengeful spirit Eleanor that Madame Riennes calls down on him is no mere figment. Riennes herself is shown to be a woman with decided occult abilities, and the battle that she has with Godfrey's Swiss ward, the Pasteur Boiset, is a memorable one, indeed; reminiscent, somewhat, of the Christian missionary vs. African witch doctor battle in 1896's "The Wizard." Godfrey is able to sense Isobel's presence from thousands of miles away, even when one of them communicates to the other after death separates the couple. To drive home the point that the two are very much a reincarnated pair of spirits, Haggard has their life histories closely follow the stories of the Plantagenet lady and her husband knight (note Godfrey's last name), who lie buried in a local church and who strike a chord of sympathy in the modern couple. Haggard was also seemingly incapable of writing a novel without at least a few action/adventure set pieces, and here, although such scenes are kept to a minimum, they are indeed present. Thus, Godfrey gets to play the hero during a Swiss mountain climbing expedition gone horribly wrong, and Godfrey becomes embroiled in a native uprising in German East Africa during the Great War. (And please don't ask me how many of Haggard's novels have featured action in the then-called "Dark Continent"!)"Love Eternal," surprisingly, is a book about which I could find virtually no information online, and indeed, I do believe that this review may represent the only substantive words regarding this forgotten book on the entire Interwebs! I am thus tempted to set out a plot description in great detail, but will leave it to you, the reader, to discover more if you should choose to read this work. The 1919 Longmans, Green edition in my possession may be a pricey proposition today, but fortunately, there are modern Leonaur and Waking Lion editions that should nicely fit the bill. Ladies, throw out your Harlequin romances and "Fifty Shades of Grey" volumes and be prepared here for something truly romantic...a love eternal! Godfrey and Isobel are said to be "appointed together by Nature"; as Isobel herself predicts, "Money won't divide us, Godfrey...not even death itself...all your heaven and hell cannot make any difference, no, not if they were both to join forces and try their best." A Haggard book that is surely ripe for rediscovery and reappraisal, "Love Eternal" should prove a gold mine for the truly romantic at heart....(This review, by the way, originally appeared on the Fantasy Literature website, a great destination for all fans of H. Rider Haggard....)

The Duchess of Padua (annotated), by Oscar Wilde

About the Author Oscar Wilde was born on October 16, 1854, to the Irish nationalist and writer Speranza Wilde and the doctor William Wilde. After graduating from Oxford in 1878, Wilde moved to London, where he became notorious for his sharp wit and flamboyant style of dress. Though he was publishing plays and poems throughout the 1880s, it wasn t until the late 1880s and early 1890s that his work started to be received positively. In 1895, Oscar Wilde was tried for homosexuality and was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison. Tragically, this downfall came at the height of his career, as his plays, An Ideal Husband "and The Importance of Being Earnest, "were playing to full houses in London. He was greatly weakened by the privations of prison life, and moved to Paris after his sentence. Wilde died in a hotel room, either of syphilis or complications from ear surgery, in Paris, on November 30, 1900.

By Nice Person I see that one reviewer has done a good job explaining the play, so I wont do that again, just give you my feedback.1) this is a great edition, if you were wondering2) you are not likely to see this play as most of Wildes' plays these days that are produced are the well known ones (and nothing wrong with that) so it is very worth reading3) the play is full of Shakespeare and its a joy to read and clue in to the different Shakespearean undercurrents, like a cultural detective - lots of fun4) its Oscar Wilde, and if you have not read or see it, you owe it to yourself to do so!Well recommended!

It was Wilds first major work put on, but not really discovered until after Lady W's Fan. This is Wilde exploring self-denying - as he was at the time, at least from a public point of view. Many deep emotions are explored here - from love and hatred, revenge and revulsion.Great cover and great edition, very good for the Wilde fan and collector.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Wilde's way with words is so impressive, that the play begs to be presented. By Christine Richardson What a joy to discover this play! I was puttering about on Amazon and purchasing a copy of The Importance of Being Earnest for a friend for their birthday, when I found this Wilde play. It's not at all like Earnest, and should not be read like a social comedy, however its genius is still Wilde, clearly. The major theme is emotions, love, revenge, and hatred - and they are not treated in a funny way, quite the reverse. Still, the dialogue is the gift that we get when we read the Duchess, Wilde's way with words is so impressive, that the play begs to be presented. But, I'm happy to just read it again, knowing that since the folks who buy tickets to Cats wont be paying to watch The Duchess of Padua and therefore it will not go on.The Importance of Being Earnest: A Trivial Comedy for Serious People
