The crowd gave way and the car glided smoothly up to the curb at the canopied entrance to the church. The blackness of the wet November night was upon the street. It had rained at intervals all day. The pavements shone wetly like new paint in the glimmer of the street lights, and rude shadows gloomed in every cranny of the great stone building. Betty, alone in the midst of her bridal finery, shrank back from the gaze of the curious onlookers, seeming very small like a thing of the air caught in a mesh of the earth.

Short The title had me a little confused at first because I did not expect what the meaning of it would be. But then it became a pleasant surprise and I started to be on the side of the potential bride. She did just what I would have done if I had been in her shoes. I don't like controlling people. This review has been submitted by Janet Short (Bernard R. Short's wife)

I'm reviewing the paperback publisher "First Rate Publishing." What a disappointment. My wife was all ready to read her favorite author, then we get this "book" in the mail. Somebody got the rights to reprint this so they just threw it together. 6 pt. type is not for books. Then placement of text on the page had no thought. There are so many "widows" and "orphans" it hurt. And I'm guessing the publishers don't even know these terms. That's when you leave one word on at he bottom of a paragraph all by it's self, or worse, when you allow that one word to show up on the next page on top all by it's self. It just looks and feel stupid. Shoddy workmanship! Makes me wonder if this edition is even true to the original, or did they take some short cuts. I thought we were getting a good deal. Got ripped off. Wife will still probably read it, but will not keep it on our bookshelf.
