This very long and detailed account is filled absolutely with drama the like one finds only in few places. It is amazing Mungo survived the first journey. The culture of that time was harsh, cruel, absolutely evil toward anyone who disagreed with the "big man"! I was so taken by the total disregard of human life so many times; it all seemed that most in that part of Africa just survived. I know they did not just survive by other reading, but the Mungo account is powerful, moving and highly dramatic and worth reading simply for the culture.

A very good read By Bob Newman Reading about men and women exploring uncharted lands dealing with hostile natives, illnesses, which you could easily die from either one, is something I would never care to do, but am glad there are people who want to. A very interesting book.
