Set in Vancouver, Canada, Running on an Angle is the fast-paced story of a website designer who has gained 100 pounds and lost her sense of balance. She has arthritis in her knees, osteoporosis in her spine and 70% lung function. Her balance is so bad she pitches sideways into hedges just walking down the street. And then she learns she has a brain tumour. Out of sheer desperation, she begins weight lifting and core strength training, then adds urban pole walking. A year later she signs up to run a 5K race, although she has no idea how far 5K is. Told with candor and humor, Running on an Angle follows her struggle to run a three-mile race in Stanley Park. Her autistic daughter supplies a delightful counter-balance with her moral support and encouragement.

Review "[Running on an Angle] was so relatable and engaging, I am left to wonder if I am a 65 year old woman trapped in a 43 year old man's body!""Like a ride on a roller coaster - fast, funny, scary and heart-wrenching.""The honesty, candidness and humour had me hooked."

From the Author I hope my story will bring laughter and inspiration to others -- even if you've been sedentary all your life, even if you feel hopeless about getting started, and especially if you think you're too old or too physically impaired.

This poignant account reads easily, like a chat with a girlfriend By Connie MacLaren "Running at an Angle" is a story a woman meeting adversity with determination and resourcefulness. To begin with, she is an artist whose only child develops a disability; she goes back to school and creates her own business to support her family. But the book moves on to chronicle the author's struggle to build herself up, step by step, when suddenly confronted with her own potentially grave illness. In this struggle, her family of two - plus assorted animals - confronts the hard choices that must be made, as a unit, and the story becomes one of warmth and hope. This poignant account reads easily, like a chat with a girlfriend.

By karen shaw What a great book, I picked it up not knowing what to expect and finished it in two reads. It would have been one if I could have stayed up late enough. I don't have a lot of time to read and have a pile of books on my nitestand waiting patiently for me to start or finish, but this one was such a satisfying, easy and entertaining read I couldn't put it down. More than a book on running, a book on the human experience. Thanks for letting us all in your head Mia Johnson, it was such a treat!.
