When I first entered on the business of Distilling, I was totally unacquainted with it. I was even so ignorant of the process, as not to know that fermentation was necessary, in producing spirits from grain. I had no idea that fire being put under a still, which, when hot enough, would raise a vapour; or that vapour when raised, could be condensed by a worm or tube passing through water into a liquid state.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Maybe just for the history By theoriginalsubguy This is a very old book. In fact, it is evident that it is so old, no proper explanation for yeast is included. I think it is a great example of historical whiskey distilling, and really, it is usable too. Everyone I have shown it to gets a kick out of it. It is not a modern guide to industrial or home whisky making, but a great historical book.
